"We watch Pitch Perfect on Netflix - you call it your favorite movie but you don't own the DVD..."
pp. 345 of
You,
paperback tv show tie-in edition, by
Caroline Kepnes This is such a throwback. I am not exactly sure why
Pitch Perfect is
Guinevere Beck's favourite movie, but it did come out in 2012, and the book was published in 2014. It was a very popular chickflick/ girl power movie at the time. I actually try to avoid this movie, except from watching YouTube clips, because the very first scene contains projectile vomiting. Anyone who knows me even the slightest bit know that I tend to vomit very easily. The movie is actually leaving Netflix (at least in Canada) on February 29th. I do want to rewatch it, and maybe I'll just skip the opening scene.
I just thought it was interesting because there are so many references to the movie
in this book. And it's just kind of strange because this book is about a Ted Bundy-esque serial killer. Ultimately this book is
trash, it reads like bad smut that wasn't even good enough for fanfiction.net. And it just makes me sad because it's like, standards must have really slipped if next to this book, Twilight is a Romeo and Juliet retelling. But I guess it's sensationalism. The Netflix show uses a lot of characters from the book - Beck, Joe Goldberg, Karen Minty, Amy Adam, Peach Salinger, Ethan, Blythe, Officer Nico. Unfortunately there is no Paco and Claudia in the book. The Netflix show in Season 1 manages to tie everything together a lot better than Caroline Kepnes.

This YouTube review of the book had me crying laughing.
