Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true
Still slogging through
this book. I may actually like this book less than the
Mulan installment (also by
Elizabeth Lim). There's just too much back story about the Blue Fairy.

tumblr I just feel like there is no need to look into the Blue Fairy this closely. I don't really know how The Blue Fairy became a fairy, or why she is human-sized. I'd rather learn about Gepetto, why he never married or had a family, and how he ended up wishing on a star that night. Depending on the version of the fairytale, Gepetto had a son who died tragically. I do want to rewatch the
animated movie and l
ive action movie on Disney Plus.
The Disney live action version was legit terrifying, though.
Anyhow, this got me thinking about how hated the Blue Fairy was in the OUAT fandom 10 years ago. (See the gifs above).
I have been struggling with this book though. On Goodreads, there are fans/readers who have had similar problems with it.
First, it really dragged on. All the scenes in Paravia were slightly boring and really, really, really long. I was always like: Okay, nice, but when does the real story begin? (Answer: At the last few pages)
The title: „What if the Blue fairy was never supposed to help Pinocchio“ didn’t fit the book at all. It was not a Twisted Tale because there was no twist.
Most of if was just something like „
Blue Fairy- The Origin“ and had nothing to do with the story about old Gepetto and his son. This story was, in my opinion, only an addition but not the main part of this book.
It's basically a Blue Fairy Origin story. Very little Pinocchio and Gepetto.
Elizabeth Lim has authored three
Twisted Tales books. I loved
her Cinderella installment so much
I actually made a tag for it.
Her Mulan installment was meh, but I made
some graphics posts with quotes and stuff.
When You Wish Upon a Star is by far the worst of her offerings. We don't care enough about the Blue Fairy to read a whole book about her family and origins.
