Ok but that second frame of Cindy arriving at the ball is EVERYTHING.
That’s not a girl going out Looking For A Prince. That’s an earnest young woman who has never had the chance to do anything nice or glamourous in her life suddenly not knowing quite what to do. She got the dress & coach and obviously looks ‘enough’ for palace hosts to let her in. But oh no. This place is HUGE. Where do I go, what do I do? This is a ball?
In later scenes, She doesn’t even zero in on the bored-looking handsome dude on the Dias surrounded by every other woman her age. She doesn’t even SEE him or who he even IS. He sees HER and she’s as stunned as anyone when he asks her to dance while she’s still trying to get her bearings and wondering if she should just go to the bar, get an appletini and chat to the waiters all night.
But a cute polite gentleman asked her to dance. That’s what you do at a ball, right? Okay, that sounds nice.
