“It serves me right for wishing on stars. The only way to get what you want in this world is through hard work.”
reblog on tumblr Reading the Tiana installment of
Twisted Tales,
Almost There, reminded me of this beautiful fanart I saw on tumblr a long time ago. (Click through link to artist.) I loved this book so much. It had a very satisfying, happy ending, and I loved all of the characters in the book. Mostly animated characters from the film fleshed out in the written word. It was exciting, it never lost momentum, and it addressed something very important to Tiana's character when she says:
"People assume I'm a maid because that's usually the only type of work a colored woman can get in this town. It's the only type of work we've been allowed to do, save for those who have skills that can't be denied, like Mama. People are often surprised to hear that I'm a chef who owns her own restaurant."

Almost There: A Twisted Tale by Farrah Rochon,
hardback edition The author of this book,
Farrah Rochon is a woman of colour, an African American woman, and I thought it was so important for a woman of colour to author Tiana's story. And she did it so beautifully and elegantly. The way she addressed Tiana's determination and fortitude to surmount her lack of privilege (especially in comparison to Lottie) was never overbearing or didactic, and at the same time, never glossed over. I don't really want to spoil the plot or ending in case anyone wants to read this book, but it just made me feel so nerdy and happy.
I would like to share with you my
Index of Tiana graphic posts. These are really gifsets that I have reuploaded onto Scrapbook from tumblr, but I am really happy with the way I have organized them. I am very excited about the
Tiana animated series,
which is supposed to be coming out this year. It just felt really good to read this book. Also the cover is gorgeous omg. The Twisted Tales series always have beautiful covers with the silhouette of a Disney Princess/character, but this one took my breath away. I borrowed my copy from the library. I love the library. It makes reading a lot more accessible to everyone.
Gah, I love Tiana so much.
