Finished watching Bambi (1942) today. I don't have the focus or concentration to watch an animated movie (or any other movie!) all at once, so I break it up into more manageable pieces.

bambi + light
I was really impressed with the scene where the two male deer fight. The use of light and shadow and colour in the background.
It didn't really make sense that Bambi was shot and "willed" himself to get up because his father (the Great Prince) told him to.
But it still was a really great film. High quality animation. There are some parts in the movie where you can see the animation cels and I love that about old animated films.
If there was a villain in this movie it was "man". Hunters who shoot animals for sport and invade animals' sacred forests and create havoc (the forest fire) due to their negligence and carelessness.
And that is a lesson that is so true. When humans paused during the height of the covid19 pandemic, the earth had a chance to breathe and heal, and endangered species were able to recuperate from what humans had done to them and their habitats.
In biology at university, I was told that white tailed deer are not monogamous, so it would be highly unlikely that Bambi's dad would have been around at all. But that is part of the fantasy, right? I'm sure nobody ever thought that Finding Nemo was realistic to marine life, except for little kids.
Going to watch Bambi 2 tonight.
