The Proposal on Disney Plus today. It was a cute rom com but it didn't make sense.
I get that Sandra Bullock's character (Margaret) needed a marriage to get American citizenship, and her assistant, Ryan Reynold's character (Andrew), being a nice guy didn't want to throw her under the bus.
But I really don't get how the whole fake engagement-marriage thing became real.
He hated her for three years. When she threw the whole marriage thing in his face, he countered with bulldozing her to promote him to editor.
And plus, there was a cute blonde lady who may have still been genuinely in love with him.
I thought that Margaret would find another way to get her citizenship/green card, and the cute blonde lady would get it on with Ryan Reynolds.
Romcoms usually feel manufactured and cheesy and formulaic, but this one was by far the worst I've ever seen.
I'm a romantic, and really guillible, so if I can't believe cheesy romantic shit, then it is probably really awful.
But I'm glad I got to see this movie. I've been curious about it for a while. I've been watching Sandra Bullock movies on Netflix (Bird Box, The Unforgiveable), but this is a movie Netflix didn't have.
Edit: Also the immigration officer dude knew it was a sham the first time - they admitted to it. How could he have given them a second shot by giving them an interview? Makes no sense.
Three days ago, I loathed you. I used to dream about you getting hit by a cab. Then we had our little adventure up in Alaska and things started to changed. Things changed when we kissed. And when you told me about your tattoo. Even when you checked me out when we were naked. But I didn’t realize any of this, until I was standing alone… in a barn… wifeless. Now, you could imagine my disappointment when it suddenly dawned on me that the woman I love is about to be kicked out of the country. So Margaret, marry me, because I’d like to date you.
