For this post, I combined tumblr gifs with book quotes, and I posted some entire gifsets because I thought the colouring was pretty :) ( Read more... )
in the book lucinda gets a "taste of her own medicine"
she gets turned into a squirrel and she is cursed with obedience
and she realizes how horrible her "gifts" are
in the movie she never faces any consequences or has to atone for the misery she has inflicted on BABIES
and there is nothing to prevent her from doing it to someone else AGAIN
also lucinda's redemption allowed for her to magic ella a dress and a pumpkin carriage because she swore to never do "big magic" again - magic that could permanently alter someone's life. and because her magic was "small magic" everything disappeared at midnight, like the fairytale

Yeah, that is one of my biggest issues with the movie as well. :(
Movie!Lucinda acts as though she has zero responsibility in Ella’s struggles. She actually has the nerve to tell her “don’t blame me for your problems”. Like seriously?? She is literally the reason why Ella had so many problems! Ugh.
I feel like the movie made this stupid change thinking that it would be make Ella Enchanted more “feminist”, but 1) Ella Enchanted is already a pretty feminist story in the book and 2) not holding people accountable for their wrongful actions is a terrible message.
The fact is that Lucinda IS responsible for inflicting a terrible curse on Ella and as a result caused her a lot pain and suffering. For the movie it invalidate Ella by suggesting that only she is responsible for her problems is just really awful.
