this is kind of random, but I wish that the movie kept olive closer to how she was in the book. in the movie, she was basically a minion of hattie, but stupider.

in the book she was kind of vacant too, but she was actually really conniving and devious. How she would make people give her money, friendship, food. She was actually kind of funny.

I agree - I think the movie oversimplified a lot of characters from the book. My biggest complaint would be that they turned her horrible father into a decent guy for the film. I feel like the script writing was just very lazy.
