She screamed. pp. 7
Mismatched because: Ella punches Pamela (I think that's her name), and she isn't commanded to. She just gets mad.
"Clear skies would be good. People could go outside." pp. 26
lol, Ella says this to Maddy, it's a cute mismatch.
Dame Olga was punctual. pp. 49
Book quote refers to Dame Olga and the girls showing up to go to finishing school with Ella. Movie gif is Dame Olga and the girls moving in to Ella's home. (In the movie, Dame Olga doesn't marry Ella's dad until much later.)
We passed the Lime Room, the Daisy Room, and the Opal Room and stopped before the Lavender Room. pp. 66
Fangirls getting a tour of the castle vs students getting a tour of the finishing school. Kind of mismatched, but very close.
I sang it. pp. 70
I wasn't graceful, but I didn't shake the ground. pp. 71
In the book, where Ella is in finishing school, she is commanded to sing and dance and she isn't really that good at it. Movie scene is a night out with Char in Giantland.
My progress in all my subjects astounded the mistresses. pp. 72
Same - finishing school in the book, Medieval Public School in the movie.
The right-hand fork led back to Frell....The road was a little trafficked... pp. 88-89
Going in to Frell - movie. Leaving Frell - book.
I just thought this sign was cute haha.
"My name is NiSSh. What's yours?" pp. 99
Book scene: NiSSh entrapping Ella with his friends to eat her, vs. movie scene: ogres joining up with the elves to defeat Edgar.

this post I have compiled a bunch of movie gifs matched with book quotes. Some of them are mismatched though, i.e. the scene in the book is different than the one in the gif from the movie.
I do wish someone on tumblr giffed the birthday cake scene - because that is the one scene in the book that is EXACTLY THE SAME as the one in the movie.
And the CGI unicorn in the intro. Because there is mention of a unicorn in passing in the book, and it would be cute.
I feel like if this movie was an ACTUAL Disney movie, there would be a lot more gifs of it on tumblr.
I wonder if Disney had ACTUALLY helmed the production of this movie,
rather than just writing a song about it, would it have been better, i.e. less goofy.
I guess we'll never know. I do like to think Disney would have made this movie "more fairytale than fun". More of the "Cinderella" references in the book - the weeping willow tree, the pumpkin coach, the GLASS SLIPPERS, Ella having to do chores. And maybe "more feminist than fun" as well. i.e. Ella saving herself from the ogres by using their manipulation and persuasion tactics against them. Maybe Disney would have treated Ella like a live action Belle, with all the book-learning.
I do feel like, maybe in another 24 years, this movie (and the book) will become a cult classic, the same way The Princess Bride has become.
From what I understand, fans of this movie really don't mind all the goofiness.
It would be kind of cool if a movie from my childhood actually became a cult classic :)
