Still Reading: Emily Climbs

Dec 04, 2021 20:07

Have been reading Emily Climbs on and off the whole day after watching TLK.

There are a TON of great audiobooks of Emily of New MoonThis is the one I'm most familiar with, it's on the Libby app. It is part of the audible plus collection :)

There are only 2 audiobooks of the sequel, Emily climbs, or Emily  #2.

And the only audible audiobook of Emily #3, Emily's Quest, is in Spanish.

This audiobook is pretty good. The narrator speaks very clearly.  I kind of wish she put more emotion/feeling into it.

This was the other option - I really didn't want a man narrator.

The main problem I have with this book - as well as Anne book 3 and 4, is that everything feels disjointed and episodic.

Reading other works by LMM, I can see why Anne of GG is everyone's favourite. Really beautiful, cohesive story, profound characterizations, strong friendships, and slow-build romance.

The friendships in the Emily Series do seem a lot more shallow.  Honestly, realistic to young girls today.  I remember I had a lot of fights with friends in primary school.  But it just made me miss Diana Barry so much.  Rhoda, and even Illse, just don't compare.

I do love that we get to see Emily as a writer, going away to school, getting her poems published.  Gives me Emily Dickinson feels.  :D

Anne did have a "Story Club" with her friends, but I believe in the third book, she looks at her old stories from that time and laughs at how bad they are.  The writing thing is more of a fun hobby for Anne.  It isn't really pursued the way it is for Emily.

And of course, Emily collects cats.  Being a cat person, I did enjoy that. :)

From Elly Mackay's instagram.

This art is so beautiful.  You almost feel like you could step into the picture and walk with Emily, barefoot and in the moonlight.

Also listened to a bit of this from Audible Plus.

Still feeling really weak.  Didn't really do much today, just kind of rested.

Tomorrow I will sit down and get my ODSP application done.  I just have to put my mind to it, in the morning.

Thanks for bearing with me. Throwing up, the way I did last night, is a huge stress on the system.  I still am not sure why it happens.
