tumblr I am including this scene in this watchpost, because it was so similar to the scene in Ever After, where Danielle and Prince Henry are by the fireside.
tumblr
tumblr 1.In both scenes, Ella and Char & Danielle and Henry are with foreign peoples; the Giants and the Gypsies respectively.
2. In both movies, the woman (Ella and Danielle) helps the man (Prince/to-be-King) to see that these marganialized peoples have been treated very unfairly, and have been made into outcasts by the ruling monarch, and need to be reintegrated into society as soon as possible.
I wouldn't be surprised if the producers of Ella Enchanted were incluenced by Ever After.
These scenes, the fireside, the "date" away from home, the plight of the marginalized people, the fairytale politics, segregation...Slannan's desire to become a lawyer...Henry's proposal of a public university in which everyone can attend...There are too many similarities to be coincidental.
Minnie Driver was in both
Ella Enchanted and the recent
Cinderella 2021 on Prime video.
Of course,
Cary Elwes was in
The Princess Bride. :) The OG Live action Cinderella film. :-)
Also in
Cinderella (2015), Kit takes Ella into a secret garden. The same happens in
Ella Enchanted, with Ella and Char. The prince's mother is dead in both movies, and the garden holds a lot of memories of her.
Cinderella (2015) avoided the whole margainalized groups/segregation/equality thing with colour-blind casting. Subtley implying that if women of colour could be princesses and duchesses and royalty, they must have the same opportunities as white women of nobility.
i love the representation of different cultures in this movie :)
Anyhow, tons of parallels, I'm sure we'll be able to find a lot more today :D
Also,
Lucy Punch is the evil stepsister in every Cinderella movie she stars in :D
