I agree, I think that in regards to Becky - the changes that they made in the 1995 movie were actually good improvements. I mean, we don’t really have to see that Becky is illiterate in order to know that she’s probably never received a proper education before. Plus, people who don’t really know how to read and write are not likely to give a gift to someone that involves writing.

Yeah, the 1995 film will always hold a special place in my heart because of how beautiful and “magical” it is. And also because it’s really well acted and well directed. But after watching the mini series, I think that one definitely takes the cake for me because it’s really well acted and it’s the most faithful adaptation of ALP so far. I think might be the only adaptation that keeps the original ending from the book and actually has Sara’s dad die.

I've watched a few miniseries so far - mostly Jane Austen - and I do love the beautiful cinematography and soundtracks of movies, buy I've noticed that miniseries have more time for minor characters and nuances and more subtle nods to the original source material.
I guess that's partly why everybody assumes that A Little Princess 1995 is by Disney, even though Disney had nothing to do with it. Warner Brothers took the movie and "Disneyfied" it.
The whole "I am a princess. All girls are" speech is basically Disney's modus operandii. And the dramatic scene on the roof. Beauty and the Beast had a dramatic showdown on the roof. It's the most Disney move ever that is not actually a Disney movie.
The classics that Walt adapted - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan - are disneyfied. Made more palatable for children, with the disturbing, abusive and grotesque elements carefully removed

Oh yes! <3 I really love Alice in Wonderland, so I’m looking forward to when we’re able to read together (probably next Spring) and compare different adaptations. There are SO many different versions :D

The Puffin in Bloom edition only contains the first book - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Which is a bit disappointing, because Alice Through The Looking Glass is really quite fascinating XD There is a unicorn in the book, Time is a character (*groans* this inspired the awful Disney live action sequel), and there are a lot of interesting songs and poems.
Awww, that really is too bad. I don’t think I’ve ever read all of Alice Through The Looking Glass, but I’ve read some quotes and brief passages online. Hopefully someday I can find an affordable copy on Amazon or while thrifting.
Sure, hun! Feel free to repost them. <3 And yes, if it’s okay I would prefer if you made the post locked to your friends only - that way I can more easily keep track of who can view my icons. :)
btw I have great news - my parents are planning to send a package to my sister and her son, so i'll be able to send your package out at the same time! i'll get there early though, but just open it as soon as you get it, don't worry about waiting XD
I’ve never seen her do that before either, but now I hope she’ll make more longer comics in the future. This one was so adorable - I especially loved the bit about Belle being barefoot during her dance with the Beast. <3
