From the movie:
M. Dufarge: "This child doesn't need to learn French, she practically is French. Says she learned it from her father...Well perhaps she can tutor the younger children, and she might just be able to help you with your pronunciation, Miss Minchin."
I liked this scene because it was another nod to the book. Another reason why she felt threatened by Sara, or a resentment anyway. She felt that Sara "showed her up".
Another reason why I love the 1995 movie. Even though the dialogue from the book is altered and given to other characters, there are many subtle nods to the text which make me really happy :) And this interaction is extremely important, and it is leading up to Sara standing up to Miss Minchin and being openly defiant of her cruel treatment.
