Year in Review

Jan 07, 2011 14:43

And from the diary of things you cannot say on Facebook: I am taking a mental health day. As previously mentioned I am finding getting up on time challenging. My body clock is totally messed up. I have the most energy at like 8:00PM and am unable to fall asleep until 2:00AM. I need to turn this around. Especially since my office has just established 9:30AM meetings. I know that doesn't seem early to some, but to me, that is brutal.

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?

Spin Class, Yoga, Swimming 1.5km in a single session.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Yes? I don't remember what I made, but knowing me they were most likely to lose weight, be more financially stable and get over LD.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yes. My sister had a beautiful son named Xavier, who is the sweetest, happiest, most content baby I've ever met.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No. Thankfully.

5. What countries did you visit?

Does my own count?

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?

Cuddles, love, sex.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Hard to say. But reflecting on which day I am likely to still remember in 10 years? There are a couple. The first time I met my new nephew for sure. The day we took my gorgeous niece to her first concert, the Wiggles (she is a HUGE fan of the Wiggles), and she lost her toddler mind with joy. Maybe the launch of the Film & Concerts series I produced for TIFF Bell Lightbox - it was an amazing show.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Getting into the workout groove. Losing 30 pounds, and completing a few gym mini-triathlons. (750 meter swim, 10 km bike, 2.5 km walk)

9. What was your biggest failure?

Completely falling off said workout wagon and gaining back 10 pounds.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Had my first ever sport injuries! Pulled a tendon in my shoulder and knee. All healed up now.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

This is tough. I bought a lot of things in 2010, but I think the winner is going to be my new couch, which is brown, sleek as hell, leather and most importantly will never require 2 hours of vacuuming to render it suitable for guests.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

The Toronto Queer Community who came together in an unprecedented way to reclaim Pride.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Pride Staff (except the one good person there, he knows who he is), especially Pride Executive Director (she is an appalling human being), and some of the Pride BOD.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Stuff. New contract allowed me to buy some nice stuff. New laptop, new couch, new dining room table, and two much needed vacations home. (Note this says vacations home. Not vacation homes.) :)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

It probably sounds lame but I probably felt the most EXCITED about taking my niece to the Wiggles concert. There was so much anticipation. We were counting down the days, so excited to see how she would react. She was just 2 at the time of the concert, so had no concept of what a concert was when we told her where we were going. My sister and I were worried that she would lose her toddler mind realizing that the Wiggles were real and right there in front of her and start crying, but she totally kept it together and had an amazing time. It was worth every $300. :)

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?

Impossible! I listen to too much music for this kind of question.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? Happier?
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner. Though the use of the word thin is not in the least accurate. Let's call it less fat.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Laughed.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Worried.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

Went home. It was awesome.

21. What was your favorite TV program?

I watch far too much TV, but if I have to pick one program which is significant and particular to 2010 it's gotta be the year of Glee.

22. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

No.

23. What was the best book you read?

Ashamed to say, I mostly read trash this year. Teen vampire and witch series, really nothing I would recommend to someone I like. I have several good books on the go on my bedside, but they are yet unfinished.

24. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Bruce Springsteen. Way to keep it current! 2010 was the first year I ever really listened to Springsteen and I now understand why he is The Boss. I adore him.

25. What did you want and get?

Clarity.

26. What did you want and not get?

Giant Flat Screen TV.

27. What was your favourite film of this year?

How To Train a Dragon

28. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Hmmm. I think absolutely nothing. At least I have no memory having done anything to celebrate my 38th.

29. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Self discipline.

30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?

The year I discovered accessories. The femme transformation is definitely complete.

31. What kept you sane?

Aaron. Alison. Sophie. Working Out.

32. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Celebrity crushes are sorely lacking. Maybe I'm over it? That would be sad.

33. What political issue stirred you the most?

Pride drama. And G-20 mass arrests.

34. Who did you miss?

I always miss my family and friends in Winnipeg.

35. Who was the best new person you met?

Probably my colleague Nathaniel. I had been randomly paired with the new guy in Production, who as it turns out is kinky, poly, progressive, sarcastic, funny as hell and easy on the eyes. Score.

36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.

The human body is capable of wonderful things. It loves to move, and if you move it, it will reward you.

37. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

"I can't complain but sometimes I still do
Life's been good to me so far"

memories, meme
