The
W.S. Merwin reading on campus today was amazing. It's been a long time since a poetry reading literally left me breathless. I want to be Merwin when I grow up, man.
It was good to see
beatnik_a_go_go there, among lots of other friends and acquaintances. (And several librarians and library people, too! Always nice to see them out enjoying poetry.)
I'm quite inarticulate about how wonderful this reading was. Just ... wow. I need to go spend a LOT of time reading Merwin now, I think.
And I have to say this -- the man was born in 1927, but he doesn't look anywhere near his age. I mean, I guess he looks exactly his age, because he is his age. But just looking at him and hearing his voice, I would no how, no way have guessed his age. I guess living in Hawaii will do that to a person. :)
On a completely un-poetic note, if you have a paid LJ account, you can get a free one-week extension on that account -- they're apologizing for some downtime a couple weeks ago.
