A Brief Reflection on the Exorcism of Emily Rose

I had been waiting to see this movie ever since I heard about it - I have a fascination with exorcism and demonology. So my wife and I go to this local theatre and there are about 60 people in the theatre. Of those 60, probably 30 were teenage girls...that's right - teenage girls at a movie about exorcism. Then there were the goth-NIN-I love the color black folks who just want to see things about demons.

Throughout the movie the teenage girls were giggling and the darko-wanna be's were talking about how it wasn't "scary enough" or that it didn't show the demons. Bummer!

The biggest problem with movies like this is that the vast majority of people who see them think it's just a movie. A big joke. Truth be told, this is the best movie I have seen on exorcism and demons. It was believable and sincere, and lacked all of the embelishments that made people think The Exorcist was scary but unbelievable.

Demons are real - I have seen a few with my own eyes just as I have seen anyone else. I have seen possessed people. I have the ability, more at some times than others, to know when demons are around and/or if someone is possessed or oppressed by demons. The submission to the authority of Christ is the only remedy for being set free. Any other "remedy" is a disguise of the devil and will ultimately fail and result in an oppression far worse than the original situation.
