I have always been uninterested in current affairs.

Ask me anything Hollywood-related and chances are, I know something about it. Ask me about last night's news and I will most probably reward you with a blank, clueless stare. I have wandered through the past 27 years of my life, oblivious to what's going on in the world around me. The last time I actively followed the news closely was after the 9/11 attacks, when I felt the insuppressible urge inside me to know more.

Therefore, imagine my surprise when I found myself following the elections news closely, WHEN I DON'T EVEN NEED TO VOTE! Wow, nobody is more astonished than me! Although I haven't attended any rallies (it's not enough to make me leave my air-con room, sorry), I have stayed up late to watch the recap of all the rallies and I even sacrificed watching my own TV shows, for the news. Yes, THE NEWS. I can't believe it myself.

I also spend my days googling for more information on the various parties. Watching videos and reading blogs (as the local newspapers aren't exactly super reliable) have provided me with a plethora of information, and I am happy to announce that I am no longer my old, apathetic self!

Anyway, I must say that I am very impressed this year, at some of the opposition candidates. And likewise, I am utterly flabbergasted at some of the PAP candidates. You know who I'm referring to. Sheesh, I am trying to form sentences to describe how I feel, but none are coming to me. I just feel an overwhelming sense of WHAT THE FUCK.

I know there's a lot of online hate, and while I understand it, I don't necessarily agree with all the points that have been brought up. I am pro-choice, and whatever people's choices are, they should be allowed to make it. I am sick and tired of logging into FB and reading about people advocating for a certain party, or signing off every damn status message with "Vote for [insert party name here]!".

Whatever the outcome of 7 May 2011, I hope that it is good for Singapore, and that the lives of Singaporeans will be vastly improved.
