Last night, Eric and I needed to go to the ATM as the month was ending and we wanted to make sure that there was enough in our POSB accounts to cover the credit card bills. When I asked Eric where the bank books were, he was 100% sure he took them out and left them on our study table. We then went downstairs for lunch and came right back up. It couldn't have gone missing within the space of 30 minutes! We hunted high and low for our bank books, and searched every nook and cranny in our bedroom including under the bed multiple times, but still couldn't find them. I even emptied all my handbags and searched my makeup drawers, just in case.
Eric was annoyed at the beginning, and as we continued searching, he got increasingly frustrated. When he went outside to ask my MIL if she's seen the bank books, she had just left the house to go downstairs. I think that's when his anger went from a slow simmer to full-on boil.
When my MIL came home, he marched outside and next thing I knew, I heard him shouting at her. He then came into the bedroom and slammed the door, and showed me the bank books. He said she took it from her pile of stuff where she normally watched TV.
WTF. I was furious! It's one thing to continue going into our bedroom whenever we left the house, under the pretense of "sweeping the floor", but it's another thing altogether to take our book banks without telling us! I do not doubt that she was looking through them, in fact, I have learnt to expect it and be wary of her. However, to remove it from our room so she could... I don't know, flip through them at her own leisure?
Our privacy is extremely important to us, especially when it comes to finances. Eric and I don't even know each other's pin numbers, passwords, or how much we have in our personal accounts. That should be the way as these things are very personal and should be kept private. Perhaps she felt that he was her son and thus it was okay for her to look through his stuff, but I am in no way related to her (thank god!) so she has no right to look through my finances. I don't know what her excuse was!
I kinda wished he asked her what she took our bank books for, just to hear what kinda lame shit she would make up to cover her ass. We've had money missing from our bedroom before so we already know what a dishonest cheat she is. I'm just extremely glad it's only my POSB bank book, as I only keep like $600 in there, in case I need to draw money urgently and the POSB ATMs are found everywhere.
That stupid nosy meddling cow.
