It was just a few days into Eric's break when things changed dramatically. Arica came home from the lab with a serious look on her face. "There's something you need to know."
"What's going on hon?" he asked, curious.
"Jack offered me a position at CTU."
"That's not happening," he snorted.
"The University and the government like to see experience with the agencies in their lab. They want me to go, especially since I'm the only one with agent training. And heck, my security clearance is higher than most of the agents that work there," she said. "I wouldn't be leaving the lab, but it'd be an exchange program kind of thing except I'm be the only one exchanging."
"Arica, you're pregnant!"
"I wouldn't be a field agent, but he liked my work on the last case and he feels an outside perspective wouldn't be bad. And when I need the maternity leave I can take it. He expects me to work the same as I do over at the lab, unless there's some kind of crisis, so I'll be heading home at 4:30/5 every day."
Eric was staring at her as if she'd just told him she was an alien from outer space.
"He's a bit understaffed right now as you know," she said.
"So understaffed he's recruiting people's wives?"
"You know it's not that, I'm well qualified!"
"Still..."
"And he wants me to meet with a Detective McCarron tomorrow. I'm having lunch with him. Jack thinks Brittany would have told him the stuff to help us. And he thinks that with her network and mine, which are completely different, we might be able to accomplish more. Besides, I deal with cops on a daily basis." [hope this isn't too reaching here]
"So you're replacing Brittany then? Except for the fieldwork."
"No," Arica replied, looking frustrated by his sarcasm. "I'm there to help, so deal with it."
