The Invitation

In my recent obsession with Seinfeld, an episode I was watching this evening sparked my thinking. Prenuptial agreements. What do you think of them? Are they necessary? Do women really get turned off by their future spouse asking them to sign one?

Oh, how convenient. Here's a poll. :)

Poll Prenup?

poll, survey, prenuptials, marriage

Absolutely.

Sean and I plan on getting married something in the next couple of years, and he knows how many assets I have that will go at stake when we get married since he has so much debt with school. He has told me in the past that he wants us to get married when we are financially capable to make such a big step. I'm going to have to take a loan against the house in order to pay for the legal fees once I fully inherit the house, and he doesn't want to add to that particular debt and have us risk losing the house. We want to be careful when it comes to the idea of marriage.

Sean's also been married before to a woman that bled him dry financially. She got him discharged from the army too early for him to qualify for benefits,
she spent all the money he made from the military to pay off her debts, leaving him in debt, and tried to convince him that he was the father of her youngest son that she had with another man.

Granted, she got squat after the divorce was finalized, but at the same time, she got everything he earned while they were married.

All in all, I don't see it as being negative; I see it as being smart.

Random piece of information, but pre-nups are not recognized in the state of California.
