[Description] Kanda is a young man of Japanese descent with long, blue-black hair, a disdainful expression, and the toned form of a swordfighter. He stands approximately 5'9" inches and weighs in at a whopping 130lbs. It might seem like he's slight enough to be blown away by a strong breeze, but what the Exorcist lacks in mass he makes up in strength of spirit and will. When wearing the usual sleeveless shirt he sports beneath his uniform jacket, the edges of a stark black mark can be seen staining his upper arm and shoulder. This mark concludes in a stylized version of the "Omkar" symbol on the upper left portion of his chest.

[Personality] The first thing one must realise when it comes to Kanda is that he works with simply one goal in mind: to find "that person". He fights in order to survive, he survives in order to continue this search. Because of this, Kanda can seem to be somewhat emotionally and socially stunted, and in many ways simply immature and childish. He simply doesn't seem to get along well with others, even those with whom he's had a several-year relationship with, including his teacher/mentor, Froi Tiedoll. His outbursts tend to edge on the dramatic, making a mountain of mole hills when faced with irritation at others. As he has grown through the series and gained a further sense of maturity, these explosions are not as frequent as they once were, though a childish bout of anger is not completely unknown. It may not be simple irritation, anger, and frustration that leads him to fight with others, appear to have a general dislike of people, or to act out in anger. When one delves deeper into Kanda's [sparse] background, it appears to stem from something much deeper than a simple personality defect.
Kanda has known ever since joining the Black Order that he is different. The project which created him as an Exorcist was deemed a failure, and perhaps it's those feelings of inadequacy and inferiority that push Kanda to act in the manner he does. He bears an unyielding pride to succeed no matter the cost to his teammates or his own person, risking his very life as he pushes himself to the limits for the simple goal of winning. Failure is simply not tolerated, and it's this desire to prove himself that Kanda seems to draw most of his strength from.
Even though he pushes to keep himself distanced from others in the Order, preferring to eat alone and be in the company of others only when required, Kanda has come to open up slowly but surely to his fellow Exorcists. This isn't to say he has revealed much about himself to anyone, but a definite feeling of camaraderie has developed between himself and the three Exorcists he works with the most. It is perhaps his time working with General Tiedoll and the Exorcists Noise Marie and Daisya Barry that first prepared Kanda for the way in which other people can truly affect him. When Daisya was killed by the Noah Tyki Mikk, Kanda showed that that such events did affect him, even if he did his best not to show that. These small flickers of emotion continue as the series progresses, and in small ways, Kanda has been affected by Allen, Lavi, and Lenalee. Like it or not, these people are those which Kanda can consider 'friends', though it's uncertain at times if Kanda even knows the definition of the word. It seems to be remarkably hard for him to allow himself to get close to anyone else as the truth of what he is constantly weighs on his mind, affecting his outward behaviour.
[Canon] Kanda serves as one of the Exorcists that works with the Black Order in the war against the Millennium Earl and his war machines known as Akuma. He pushes forward with a single-minded goal of living long enough in order to find "that person". "That person's" identity has yet to be revealed in canon, much like most of Kanda's background.
A member of the Order for nine years, Kanda was created in the Second Exorcist project headed by the Branch Heads of both the Asiaa and North American branches of the Black Order. The project was deemed a failure and closed, though the details of it have not been revealed. This past gives a dark, pessimistic air about Kanda's character, and it's this past that seems to drive him further on. Wielding the Innocence-forged katana known as Mugen and employing several talents that spur on his accelerated healing and battle prowess, Kanda fights alongside the other Exorcists in the various missions they are dispatched on in their search for more Innocence and its compatible users.
During his scattered appearances in the series, Kanda has displayed himself to be a stoic, bad-tempered swordsman with a fondness for soba. His caustic personality has earned him few fans, though his "pretty boy" appearance has gained him fans of the female persuasion. Despite his outwardly unapproachable attitude, Kanda has shown himself to be more than capable in battle, able [and sometimes willing] to work alongside the other Exorcists, even going far enough at times to put himself in the line of danger in order to protect those who cannot protect themselves. This isn't to say he's a "helpful" character, but his sense of pride will not allow him to lose any fight, whether he is outmatched or not.
He has played major roles in many large battles on the Order's side, including the fight upon the Millennium Earl's Ark where Kanda proved himself capable of facing off against one of the Noah Clan, though it was in this battle that he pushed his limits seemingly harder than he had before. The most recent fight he was involved in was the one in Paris involving the Phantom Thief G. It was during this altercation that the presence of the group known as the Third Exorcists was finally revealed, surprising an usually unflappable Kanda.
