One of my favorite things about living outside the 1st world are siestas. And no, they don’t use the word “siesta” here in China, but my organization allows us to have a break from around 11:30 am - 2pm to go home, eat lunch and rest.
There’s something about the twittering of birds outside, the hushed voices because one of our roommates is napping, the low muffle of the television that sooner or later I turn off, the natural light spilling into the living room and bedrooms from the open curtains - that makes me feel an incredible peace and contentment.
And it’s times like these I adore being here.
