Well, much was accomplished this weekend, though much remains to be done.
Thanks to my sweetie
kenrs , my kids, Alastar, Raven, Leifr, Cassandra, Red, Dani,
alaricmacconnal ,
cellio ,
lefkowitzga ,
fiannaharpar,
lrstrobel ,
lstrobel , and
almondroy , (and I hope I didn't forget anyone, but I'm very tired) we got almost all of the house primed (about 50% of the kitchen remains to be done), all three bedrooms' walls done (trim needs touchup), the 2nd floor bathroom walls painted and the first coat of paint on the entryway (including the front door), the 2nd floor hallway, the stairs from the 1st to 2nd floor, and a small portion of the living room. Leifr and friends also took down the scaffolding, and Leifr has promised to fix the powder room vanity that's not really attached to the wall or to its sink properly.
In addition to painting the rest of the unpainted walls of the house, I still need to degloss and then paint most of the trim. Still daunting, but not frighteningly so.
The good news is that the wall and trim color I chose are working well. I painted the interior woodwork around the front door and the entryway walls so I could see what the final effect will be, and it's pretty nice. The wall color has an odd tendency to metamorphose in different light even more than most. I would have described it as "tan" when I bought it. In the entry way with the doors closed it looks butterscotch yellow. With the door open it looks light beige. In the liviing room with the afternoon sun streaming in it has a slight pinkish cast. Fortunately, it's pleasant in all of those guises.
Also put my older son to work with a drill and wire brush, cleaning off all the heating grates. They are now devoid of rust and chipped paint, and ready for a few coats of Rustoleum in a marbled brown, though we didn't get to the point of actually painting them.
My younger son was admirably helpful with painting, and then put some elbow grease into polishing up the badly tarnished brass mail slot, though with many complaints. Eventually he got the job 90% done and I finished it the rest of the way, so it is once again shining golden.
I will probably have to have at least one more weekend session, more likely two. Sigh. But I really appreciate all of my friends who gave of their time to help me with my house. I hope they enjoyed the beer and pizza. :-)
