In Haste

Life and work have been crazy for the last four or five days, sorry if I have not responded to posts or emails.

A few odds and ends:

One of the fun things about the new house is discovering new things here and there.  This weekend I found a small patch of peonies growing in the side yard at the edge of the wood. Picked a pink one and brought it inside, the scent was heavenly (though the kids thought it was too strong and said Ugh).  It feels like a little gift.  I also found some hair extensions way up on a shelf in a closet. Not having a need for such things, I figure I'll call the previous owner and see if she wants them back.

Friday night I introduced my kids to Babylon 5. We watched the opening episode (pilot?), "The Gathering." They loved it. They kept trying to predict what would happen next or what various things meant, and I had to caution them multiple times that B5 is not like "Star Trek."  Over and over I said "Nothing is what it seems."  It was a hoot watching it again; knowing how it all turns out gave everything a bit of a twist. My older son spent three days walking around talking like Londo Molari. :-)

I am planning to hold my house-warming party on Saturday July 5. Only one catch - there is almost nowhere for people to park. After 5 weeks none of the neighbors has come over to introduce themselves, so I think I will bake some cookies, bring them along as gifts when I go say hello, and eventually turn the conversation to that topic.

After the past weekend, I am thankful for air conditioning.

life, kids
