Hi!
Went to FallCon yesterday, not really knowing what to expect, but did listen to one good panel. The message was essentially, "if you want to be a writer, write! If you want to be an artist, draw!"
I'm ready for my 8th page of the graphic novel I wrote last April and every page is dramatically different from each other. The computer may not be my friend after all. It's not going to fix my poor perspective or proportions, although it does panel lines and text boxes really well.
My characters are looking different each time I draw them. What have I learned? To do what the books say. Design your characters first, draw from front, back, & side. I really understand this now. That gives me time to figure out his/her hairstyle and costume from head to foot.
I'm going to take a break from my experiement to develop a visual catalog or morgue. Although I can imagine what I want my characters to look like, I do need a visual reference. I want my main character to be a young Adrian Paul like guy. Although I watched lots of Highlander, the tv series, my memory of him isn't that good.
