I'm really glad that I have to drive to Bloomington in order to shop at Ikea. Most of the things I want, you can't order online, so I have to make the trip down to the store. I know that a lot of their things are cheap and not made super well, but I found that if you really look things over, you can get some good deals that are well made. Or at least well made for what you are paying for it.
My roommates family flew home yesterday and since I was in the area, I decided to make a "quick" stop to pick up a couple of things I forgot to get the last time I was there. I spent over two hours there and know that if I had more time, I would have spent another couple of hours looking at everything.
Right now my computer desk is in the living room, which really clutters up the room, but also makes it hard to have more than my couch for seating. My roommate isn't able to use the couch because it's not comfortable for him, so we need to find a comfy chair that can go in the living room. He spends most of his time in his bedroom because that is the only spot we have that he can sit/lay down for any length of time. The plan is to move my desk into my bed room, but my current desk won't work in my bedroom, so I needed a new desk.
I also needed to get a table type desk, since there is a wall heating unit in my room (that I've never used because it looks so old I'm afraid it will start a fire) that I need to have removed, but in the mean time, need the desk to fit over this thing.
I ended up getting the
Vika Fagerlid table legs for my new desk, instead of the
Vika Artur trestle shelf/legs that I wanted because they were sold out.
I had a hard time deciding on what table top to get. They had a couple of cool glass tops with designs in them, but in the end decided on
plain frosted glass. I also got
this desk storage box and another one not shown on line with 3 smaller cubbies on the top row in the Fira series. I found a frosted glass shelf that I will put on top of them to make a shelf and add some storage to the desk.
Here's a shot of my new desk in it's very cramped space:
And a better shot of the fire hazard wall heating unit:
I picked up another rail for the kitchen to hang baskets for potatoes and such on. We have two other rails on the wall that have most all of our cookware. I realized after I put them up this summer that I wouldn't be able to hang the basket back up that I had in that spot where I put onions, potatoes, garlic, etc. For some reason, Ikea doesn't sell very much of the
Grundtal line online, so I had to wait until now to get the extra rail.
I was super excited to find
these bags. I've been looking for sturdy shopping bags that were big enough that I wouldn't need a lot of them to haul groceries home in. They're also super cute and they were only $1.50 each. I got two in each design.
I stayed up until after 1AM last night getting my desk put together and one of the desk organizers built. I now need to completely rearrange my whole room because the desk turned out a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. It's actually kind of nice getting some new things for my room and the idea of rearranging it. It's the one room in the house that I really haven't done anything with since I moved in. It still has the old lady paint job on the walls, too. Maybe this summer (after I finish all of my other started painting jobs) I will finally get around to painting my room.
