Day Five: Wednesday
Got up again at the ass crack of dawn to call Vienna. Left a message for the lady who is in charge of my roommates account. I'm so tired that I go back to bed and let my roommate wait for the call back. She did call back, but didn't help him much.
I got to meet my roommates physical therapist. He was excited at the progress my roommate has made in the last week. He wants him to focus not so much in getting up and moving around, since my roommate is doing that with no prompting, but to now focus on how many times in a row he can walk around the house. He also suggests we get a exercise bike, if we can, to help rebuild the strength in his legs. My parents happen to have an exercise bike they can let me use.
I pulled out Christmas decorations and started putting up and decorating the garlands I have on my living room windows every year. I don't have a tree yet (maybe Friday) so I leave the stuff out for when I decorate the tree.
Made Russian tea cake cookies and many, many loaves of banana bread.
Went over to
Tundrababe for ProjectRunwayStitch'nBitch and got to also see Dayna and Keith the frog. :) Tundrababe dubbed the loaf of banana bread that I brought her to be holy banana bread as it was wrapped in a swaddling kitchen towel when I brought it over. I had a really good time hanging out with Tundrababe, catching up on Project Runway and working on my mom's blanket. Tundrababe's birthday was on Monday, Happy Birthday! :)
After I went home I decided I was too awake to go to bed, so I watched
Pride and Prejudice which Netflix delivered earlier that day. It was the newer version and it wasn't half bad. Keira Knightly grates on my nerves, but I tried to ignore that. Every time I that Mr. Darcy came on screen, however, I expected to see
Colin Firth. I also got more knitting done on my mom's blanket (2 1/2 more panels to go by the 24th!)
Day Six: Thursday
I overslept getting up at 4AM to help my roommate AGAIN call Vienna to get his rep to actually help him instead of passing him off to the website. I instead composed an email that hopefully didn't insult the lady too much, but got her to actually help him.
Puttered around the internets while waking up with yummy, yummy coffee. I rediscovered my
moka pot and I have been using it all week long for great tasting coffee and memories of Vienna. I actually have had a moka pot for well over ten years, but the all of the coffee I had while in Vienna tasted like the coffee that is made in a moka pot. Every morning my roommates mother and I had coffee made in the prettiest moka pot I have ever seen. The top of it was a creamy colored ceramic pot with pretty little blue flowers painted on the side. From what I remember, the moka pot had belonged to my roommates grandmother.
Partway through the morning, I decided to finally make the
duvet cover that I bought the materials for about a month ago. I spent all afternoon and part of the evening working on this project. I have no idea why it took me so damn long, but it did. I also successfully made my first buttonholes on something. The first couple looked really bad, but the last few look quite good.
Go me. Finally made the yummy spaghetti type dish that I had been meaning to make for over a week. (Boil 1 large bag of wide egg noodles and drain. While they are cooking, brown 1LB of ground Italian sausage with 1/2 onion chopped finely and a clove of minced garlic. When meat is mostly cooked, add 1pkg of thawed frozen spinach. Cook until water from spinach has evaporated. Beat four eggs, then add them to 1 container of sour cream. Mix meat/spinach, noodles, sour cream/egg mixture together along with 1 jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce and about 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese. Put into a baking dish, cover with aluminum foil. Bake in a 325 degree oven for 35 to 45 minutes. I take the foil off the last 10 to 15 minutes.) Even though the roommate requested the dish, he thought it might be too much for him to eat right now. He tried it and was able to eat more than I thought he would.
When I got the mail this evening, I did a little dance of joy. My insurance company sent me a reimbursement check for the deductible I had to pay this summer to get my car fixed after my car accident. They must have gotten the other insurance companies to pay for the damages to my car. I had forgotten that they had told me if that happened, I would get my deductible back. It seriously could not have come at a better time!
I read for over two hours to my roommate. I'm starting to get into the story and want to just finish the damn book. My voice can't handle that, but I don't want to just read ahead only to re-read it to my roommate the next day. Well, I think another night or two and we'll be done with this book and can move on to the next in the series.
Since I was really wanting to keep reading, I decided to spend the rest of the night snuggled in my bed under my comforter reading one of my started books. I have a handful of started books and one of them I had forgotten about, so I decided to continue reading
Dark Moon Defender by Sharon Shinn. I was able to pick up right where I left off (I hate it when I have to re-read what I had already read because it had been too long since the last read) and read until I couldn't keep my eyes awake.
