I realized that I haven't posted any photos of my finished knitting projects recently. Here's what I've finished over the last few months.
First up is the scarf I made for my sister. I started this right around Christmas last year, but really wasn't in a huge rush to finish it since it was a lighter weight/decorative scarf and was going to give it to her for her birthday. This scarf became my traveling companinion over a six month time period. Seriously, six months. I only took it out to work on while I was waiting for a flight, got bored in flight and finished it while my father was in surgery this spring in the waiting room. It's been to Vienna, Austria, London, England (well, Heathrow at least!) Little Rock, AR, Austin, TX & Rochester, MN.
Next up is the purse I made for my mom. When I was in Little Rock in January, I got a bribe email from my mom to knit her a scarf and purse with the yarn she had just picked up to match her new winter coat. She said that she had this fairy quilt that she was working on, but had noooo idea who she knew that would be interested in a fairy quilt. Gotta love my mom. The thing is, I really didn't care for the yarn that she picked out. It is fuzzy, and I had just finished making a bunch of projects with novelty yarns as gifts. Not because I like novelty yarns, but I knew the people I was making things for would like them. This yarn isn't so much fuzzy as it is HAIRY. I really had to push myself to keep working on it. My incentive was that I could work with yarn that I liked once I was done with it. It didn't take a picture of the scarf, but I'm sure that you can imagine it.
I completely made the purse up as I went along. I taught myself how to decrease and to make button holes with this project. Halfway through this project I realized that because the yarn was so hairy and stretchy, I would have to sew a lining for it. I knew as soon as she had a few things in the purse, it would completely stretch out and look weird. After I had the purse sewn together, I measured it's dimensions and made a pattern for the lining. I even put some pockets in for her. Damn, I hope she realizes what a swell kid's she's got to go to all this extra work for her.
And for as much as I had to push myself to complete this project, I actually really am proud of it now that it's done. It looks a lot nicer than I thought it would when I started it and because of the lining, had a nice shape to it.
This next one was the quickest project I've ever done and the first knitting in the round project that I've done as well. Finally! I started it last Friday night and finished it in a few hours on Saturday. I didn't have any yarn on hand for a hat that I would like to wear, so I grabbed this yarn just to try the project out. It looks a lot cuter in person and when it's on someone who isn't completely sick with the plague (or a sinus infection-they're so much alike it's easy to confuse them) and tired from being at work all day.
This is so not a knitting project, but since I had the sewing machine out after making the lining to my mom's purse, I decided to make a duvet cover to match my new flannel sheets. I'm also really pleased with how it turned out as well. So does my cat Crunch. He spends most of his time napping on my bed when I have them on my bed.
Speaking of cats, I'll leave you with Clementine slowly creeping up on Crunch for cuddles. I knew it was only a matter of time before the two of them would be cuddled up together. Crunch lives for cuddling and the idea is growing on Clementine.
Ps. I love Crunches big rabbit feet, they make my heart all meltly.
