It is definitely not a great week so far. First of all, Reds had a disappointing performance in Porto; then, there are bad news that Xabi and Danny will have to be out up to six weeks for foot injuries; and meanwhile, the fiasco in London actually is not a good sign in my opinion

but what a jerk. honestly. masch and xabi are two totally different players. some people think that xabi's form has waned since his first season with us, but i think that it's just changed.
he's not so attack-minded now as he was at first, but his defensive abilities are much better. rafa has changed his game. and anyway, while he is playing with stevie, he has to be the holding player, just so that stevie can do what he does best and go on his rampages. stevei can't do that if xabi isn't holding down the ford, cos then he would be worried about the defense. doing this however, has curbed xabi's attacking abilities. i mean, look at how well xabi played when he had someone else to anchor the midfield and do all the mopping up in front of the back front during the derby game with masch. there, he was mostly attack, less defense.
that's why it seems as if masch and stevie are a good pairing. macsh is a naturally defensive midfielder. he does naturally what xabi has to work hard to do. there's a difference in that. plus, while there is no denying that masch can pass well, (he is an argie, after all) it is nowhere near the ability that xabi has.
i think that it all comes down to the team that we are playing against and the style that rafa wants us to play. if we're being more attack-minded, xabi would be our man. he does the defending-thing decently, and he can zip the ball to the wings quickly to push up our attack. but, if we're being defensive, then masch it is. no need for fancy, long passes, just simple, quick and good defending.
there. i have to go now, cos i have a quiz to do. stupid person. *grumbles*
