Departmental thoughts - I'm having a hard time putting these into words

There's something to be said for the way the Department started, with high school students. It insured that people would spread out, form networks and branches and be there for the people who would be interested. College works too. Post college - not sure. Perhaps something involving the internet someday. And I'll still be in touch with college types, which brings us to:

The Department emphasized the liminal times, training and then being unleashed on the world. Witnessing growth among friends. There is another level, one I've only really thought about lately, which is afterwards. Seeing the newbies, year after year. I was telling Steve today that I would probably go to the Psi Phi new member meeting next school year - it's a mundane version of this.

I think it's interesting to consider the timing of departmental things. I became aware of mentoring again March of my junior year of high school, and it really got started around the end of April and early May. Although I was certainly considering it earlier, I came back to magic March of my junior year of college. I was thinking Departmentally April onwards, really trying to understand what we had done and how I could make it useful and sustainable now. I had it decently figured out by August. Although things have been turbulent lately, nothing Departmental has exploded. *knock on wood* So hopefully this will be the version that takes. And of course, I'll be doing my own work first, which will certainly help.

So that was all clear as mud. Ah well. I welcome questions, should anyone be curious. My answers might turn out more coherent. :)

thoroughly departmental, imperatress
