A week or so ago, we had the company christmas part, with requisite bonuses. I decided rather than do the responsible thing, I would buy something for myself. Had wanted an MP3 player every since my little RCA Lyra 128 gave up the ghost. Soooo, I did some comparisons. Ruled out the 30+GB units, way too expensive. Came down to the 20GB units, and betwen the iPOD and the Creative Zen Touch.
Ended up going with the Creative. After comparing operational specs, the ONLY difference between the units was the apple logo, the iPod 'mystique' and about $75.00 cash. Uhm, the mystique I do not get since I am over 16 and not a consumer whore, and $75 for a picture of an apple with a bite missing is a bit steep. :) Granted the creative is a tiny bit bigger and a bit heavier, but again, that $75 outweighs the differences in size/weight for something that I will wear on my belt or carry in a pocket.
Functionally, its great. LONG battery life...rated at 24 hs continuous play...I've recharged it once in a week and a half, and I use it daily at work at the bench. Can handle files as well as music, though I have not used that feature yet. Software installed easily, no problems. Easy to use, updated it off the web with zero problems. Fully compatible without plugins with my main music player (MusicMatch 10). There is a BIOS update out for it, but at the moment, its running fine and from what I read, not sure it would gain me anything to upgrade. And I am a follower of the 'if it ain't broke, dont' fix it' school of BIOS upgrades. :)
All in all, a good buy and I am happy with it. Would recommend it to anyone interested in a player.
