AN: So, I came up with the idea for this one on the way home Monday night and then wrote it out as soon as I was able. Oops? Yay for quick GMW oneshots! :) Since that's how I wrote OTEOSW I'm just chalking it up to: 'So this is how I write GMW fic'. hee! This fic takes place shortly after my first GMW fic: "On The Edge Of Something Wonderful", but not necessary to read first. I love the idea of these two together as much as I do Riley and Maya. Enjoy! :)

Lucas Friar should’ve seen this coming. But the big moments in life tended to be sneaky, slightly impatient, until a person was willing to take a chance to change his or her life.

Riley Matthews had done that when she’d kissed Maya Hart. Her best friend. Her girlfriend now. But no, even that wasn’t right. Lucas knew the girls were first and foremost soulmates. And not even he, a reasonably attractive guy, could ever get in the way of something that special. Not that he wanted to.

He loved Riley. Of course he did. She was his quirky, energetic, impressionable, compassionate best friend. Her heart was overflowing with love that she was only too willing to share with everyone she came into contact with. But especially with her family and friends. And Maya. Of course Maya. Always Maya.

Lucas loved Maya too. She was like the sister he never wanted but felt fortunate enough to call his. Sometimes. The nicknames had been a bit much at first he thought, but after enough time had passed Lucas had grown to realize they were Maya’s way of being affectionate with him. She made fun of him constantly. And he also knew that if she were ever to stop teasing him something awful would or had already happened to one of their foursome.

Because they were very much that. A foursome. Farkle Minkus had been a surprise. A curiosity at first when Lucas first met him. Lucas wasn’t sure how to define his friendship with Farkle when they were thirteen. And now that they were sixteen it was even more confusing.

But one thing he knew for sure was that wherever he went he wanted Farkle right by his side. Much like Riley and Maya were inseparable, his and Farkle’s friendship was much the same. And unlike Riley and Maya, who had known each other forever, he and Farkle had only known each other for three years. But for Lucas it might as well have been a lifetime.

Shortly after Riley and Maya began dating, Lucas realized he’d been taking every opportunity he could to touch Farkle. It was like a private bet he had with himself to see how far he could take things before Farkle called him out on it.

In between classes, Lucas met Farkle by his locker. His friend greeted him with a broad smile, only continuing to ramble on about their History project Mr. Matthews had given them as Lucas carefully took a hold of his hand. Lucas’s smile felt plastered to his face, his heart roaring in his ears as Farkle dragged him off to class.

Later that afternoon, Lucas was too distracted to be any sort of productive as far as getting his homework done for the next day was concerned. He was in his room, pacing the length of it several times over before he finally collapsed onto his bed with a heavy sigh.

He looked up in alarm, letting out a yell of surprise when he heard something hit his bedroom window.

“You gonna let me in or what?” Farkle demanded, an amused smile lighting up his features.

“Farkle, what’re you doing here?” Lucas asked his friend, helping Farkle in through the window.

Farkle shrugged. “You tell me. You were the one who was distracted all throughout Mr. Matthews’ class today. You didn’t even give Maya your usual: ‘Why thank you, Ma’am’ when she called you Ranger Rick!” he exclaimed in confusion, his voice dipping into a southern twang as he imitated Lucas.

Lucas drew in a sharp breath, heat flaring deep within his belly as he heard Farkle’s imitation of his Texas drawl. He gave Farkle a small smile before sitting back down on his bed, leaning back until he was looking up at the ceiling.

It didn’t take Farkle long to join him. “Uh, Lucas, what’re we doing?” he asked softly, turning his inquisitive gaze on Lucas.

“Spending time together?” Lucas replied, letting loose a shaky breath as what he was truly feeling for his friend began to take form in his mind. The smile he had on his face grew a bit wider as Farkle moved closer, resting his head on Lucas’s shoulder.

“I think I know what’s going on. You miss them, huh? The girls, I mean,” Farkle said.

“Yeah, I do. But it’s okay, because I have you. As long as I have you I’ll always be okay,” Lucas murmured, sitting up slightly until he’d positioned himself so he was hovering over Farkle’s leaner frame.

He grinned as he watched Farkle swallow heavily, his Adam’s apple bobbing in his throat. Gently cupping the side of Farkle’s face in his palm, Lucas leaned forward, his lips lightly brushing against Farkle’s.

His body thrummed with something he couldn’t quite explain as he felt, more than heard, Farkle growl as his friend pulled him in even closer. He laughed once before Farkle’s mouth fell open even further allowing him access where he hadn’t had it before.
Lucas felt dizzy, his head swimming with thoughts of chances, warmth, more, moments, need, now, now, NOW… and Farkle as they continued to kiss.

A few minutes later, when the necessity to breathe finally became too much for him, Lucas reluctantly pulled away from Farkle, his lips lightly brushing Farkle's as he leaned forward until their foreheads were touching for a moment before he pulled back completely to take in the sight of his best friend. He was pleased to see Farkle stretched out beneath him, face flushed, hair slightly mussed, his lips swollen and his breathing labored. Knowing that he’d been the one to make his best friend look like that left a feeling of accomplishment swoop low in the pit of Lucas’s belly.

Rolling off of Farkle, Lucas found himself staring up at the ceiling of his bedroom again.

“So, uh, I think I could use your help with that History project,” he said.

He couldn’t keep the grin off his face as he heard Farkle laugh next to him.
