Finally, it's finished! Yay!
*~<3 Epilogue <3~*
In the days that followed Casey couldn’t remember feeling so happy. Sam told both her and Derek repeatedly that he was relieved and thrilled that they’d finally figured out they were meant for each other. And then he’d tell them to get a room when they would start making out in front of him.
Casey could see a visible difference in Derek. He looked even more relaxed (if that were possible) since they’d begun dating than in the entire time they’d known each other.
One night at a party he’d dragged her out back of the fraternity house where the party was being held only to stop mere feet from a swimming pool. Casey wondered briefly how the members of the frat had managed to convince the Chancellor to have a pool put in.
“Derek?” she asked softly, her fingers lightly ghosting over his. She had to ask him this or otherwise the questions would keep her awake at night. And being his girlfriend she had a right to the answers. At least that was what she kept telling herself.
“Yeah, Case?” he murmured, the smirk on his face only increasing her anxiety over the situation. Swallowing visibly, Casey vehemently ignored the pounding of her heart and the roaring in her ears. Derek was her boyfriend now. He had no reason to lie to her.
“Is it just me or are you really more at ease around me? Even when we were friends I kept feeling some kind of tension rolling off of you in waves. I’m just…I guess I’m just confused by the change in your attitude,” she finally admitted, flashing him a nervous smile.
Cupping the sides of her face, Derek leaned forward, kissing her deeply on the mouth, before leaning back slightly, his forehead touching hers.
“Do you remember when you, Lizzie and Nora had first moved in with us?” he asked.
“Of course. I hated every minute of those first few months,” Casey said, nodding.
“Right. Do you remember me telling you that I always get what I want?” Derek continued.
Casey nodded again, her eyes widening suddenly as she fully realized the implication of Derek’s words.
“Are you telling me that you knew when we were fifteen that you wanted to be with me?” she demanded in a whisper, her mind reeling.
“Well, I knew you were hot and I wanted to try hooking-up with you back then sure, but dating you? That’s entirely foreign territory to me, Spacey,” Derek insisted.
Casey stared at her boyfriend pointedly, shaking her head, huffing in annoyance. “Derek, you may be the Lord of the Lies, but you’re forgetting you taught me everything you know. I can tell when you’re lying to me, sweetheart. Now spill before I get violent,” she growled between clenched teeth, her eyes narrowing.
Derek rolled his eyes, throwing his hands up in defeat as he sighed heavily. “All right, fine, you caught me. I may have thought about the idea of you being my girlfriend once or twelve hundred times,” he admitted, his face melting into a smile.
“I like how you’re different with me than you are with anyone else,” Casey said, pulling him close again, resting her head against his shoulder.
“It’s part of being my girlfriend, Casey. You’re privy to information about me that no one else is. Lucky you,” Derek said with a chuckle.
“No, you’ve always treated me, our relationship, differently. And after all these years I find out it’s because you’ve been in love with me nearly from the minute we met? I can’t just ignore something that big, Derek. I love you too. Let me prove it to you. Take me back to my dorm. Please, honey,” she pleaded softly, her lips brushing his forehead, eyes, nose and mouth.
“As tempting as that offer is, Case, we can’t leave yet, baby,” Derek said, clearing his throat as he struggled to reign in his hormones, which naturally were on overdrive.
“What? Why not?” Casey demanded, her confusion apparent.
“We haven’t tried the pool,” Derek replied.
“We haven’t…? Oh no. Derek, please stop. No, no, no…” Casey said, shaking her head as her boyfriend lifted her effortlessly, throwing her into the deep end of the expansive swimming pool.
Derek watched in delight as Casey flailed in the water, coming to the surface sputtering and shivering as she glared at her boyfriend. “Derek!” she shrieked, doing her best to splash water in his direction.
Derek just laughed. “That’s my girl,” he said, ignoring the rest of the onlookers from the party as he gave a loud whoop before cannonballing into the pool, joining his girlfriend.
