STORY TITLE: The Feeling of Finding That One
AUTHOR: ariafree (Moria)
FANDOM: One Tree Hill
RATING: PG-13
WARNING/DISCLAIMER: Brief mentions of child abuse. I don't own these characters. I also don't own One Tree Hill. The show belongs to creator Mark Schwahn. No disrespect is meant. I'm just a writer wanting to tell a story. Spoilers for the Season 9 episodes: Catastrophe And The Cure and Every Breath Is A Bomb.
PAIRINGS/CHARACTERS: Chase Adams/Chris Keller; mentions of Chuck Scolnik
SUMMARY: Chase Adams has realized he's developed feelings for his best friend Chris Keller. Partly because, despite his slight narcissistic tendencies, Chris really cares about Chase. And not only that, but he cares about Chuck. A kid that wormed his way into Chase's heart a few years back. Chris, Chase realizes has done the same thing. So why the hell not see where it leads?
AN: Okay, OMG, guys!! I can't believe I did it! I finally wrote OTH fic! AND it's featuring one of my favorite pairings! ^_^ Sure, technically, Chase and Chris never officially got together. But as far as I'm concerned they might as well have. With only 13 episodes these two managed to really sell their friendship (and so much more! LOL) as legit. They were definitely a lot of comic relief with all the drama swirling around in the 9th Season. With the exception of Brachel (Brooke/Rachel--Sophia&Danneel ;)) they're my favorite slash pairing in Tree Hill. So you can see their bromance in action, I'm adding an embedded link:

This scene and the guys' dynamic sets up certain points in my fic fairly nicely I think. LOL!
Any footage with either Chase OR Chris interacting with Chuck Scolnik after what his father did to him makes me pretty emotional and makes me want to write Established Relationship Chase/Chris fic where Chuck ends up with them. Safe, ya know? But that's an idea for another time. I hope you enjoy the fic!
Chase Adams stood outside Red Bedroom Records, an unexpected wave of nerves assaulting him. This was ridiculous. It was just…it was Chris. ‘Chris Keller’ a voice in his head that sounded suspiciously like Chris’s reminded him.
Chase had been given a general discharge from the Air Force earlier that afternoon thanks to him having taken matters into his own hands concerning a guy by the name of Wade Scolnik. Wade had been physically abusing his son, Chuck. And Chase had taken it upon himself, with the help of a crowbar, to take matters into his own hands once he knew for sure Chuck was being hurt. Hospitalizing the bastard had been worth Chuck lying to the cops about what his father had done. Chase wasn’t mad at him. He knew the kid was running scared.
Chase and Chuck had become friends over the past few years. No, it was more than that if Chase were being honest with himself. He loved the kid as if Chuck were his own son. Lord knew the boy needed positive role models in his life what with him having an absentee, deadbeat father and an alcoholic mother for parents.
Chase felt glad he could be someone Chuck looked up to and respected. Hell, Chris could too, he thought begrudgingly with a faint smile on his lips despite his initial misgivings.
Sure, the guy had practically brainwashed Chuck into becoming his friggin’ clone for awhile there, going so far as to even nickname Chuck ‘Kid Keller’. And he had an almost annoying propensity to talk about himself in the third person, yet somehow he’d ended up becoming the best friend Chase had ever had.
And he couldn’t prove it, but Chase found he couldn’t shake the gut feeling he had that Chris was the one who had somehow convinced Chuck to come forward and finally tell the truth.
That knowledge in itself gave Chase butterflies. But remembering Chris’s outrage on his behalf when the other man found out Chase was being discharged from the Air Force was pretty damn amusing and sexy as hell. And it was in that moment that Chase realized somewhere along the way he had developed feelings for Chris. Or hell, maybe they’d always been there from the moment the two of them had met and Chase had finally opened his eyes to the possibilities of what that could mean for the both of them. And what it could mean for Chuck.
Drawing in a deep breath, Chase stepped into the recording studio where Chris was busy laying down a track for his latest album. Chase couldn’t help the small grin that graced his features as he watched the other man work.
As Chris sang, his smile widened when he reached certain words in the song, his gaze holding steady with Chase’s.
With the last words of the song hanging in the air, Chase swallowed hard, his heartbeat picking up a slightly faster pace as Chris left the recording booth and approached him.
“So, what do you think? Good one, isn’t it?” Chris demanded of Chase, smirking at him as if he knew the effect he was having on Chase.
Chase nodded, swallowing again. “Uh…huh,” he finally choked out. Jesus, Adams. Pull yourself together, man! He silently berated himself.
Chris laughed in response. “Hell, yes, it is. So, what’s up? We can’t exactly go out and celebrate your being discharged from the Air Force, right?” he asked hopefully.
Chase snorted. “That would be a ‘no’, Chris,” he replied. “I’m not exactly in the celebrating kind of mood,” he admitted.
Chris’s face fell. “So no strippers?” he whined.
Chase shook his head. “No strippers.”
“Dammit. Chris Keller wanted us to get laid tonight,” Chris grumbled. “You’re no fun when you’re not having sex,” he said, motioning in Chase’s direction.
“Um, thanks?” Chase replied dryly. Breathing sharply through his nose, Chase narrowed his eyes, realizing he’d have to be a little less subtle if he wanted Chris to catch on to how he was feeling. “Look, man, I never…I never thanked you.”
Chris raised his eyebrows in Chase’s direction. “Thanked Chris Keller? For what?” he asked, his confusion evident in his features.
“For the way you defended me after you found out the Air Force kicked me out,” Chase explained. “And for getting Chuck to admit the truth about his dad,” he continued, giving Chris a smile.
“You’re my best friend, Chase. Of course I’m gonna be pissed if something like this happens to you. Bright side to this whole thing though is Chuck’s ass of a father is in jail where he belongs,” Chris insisted. “And for the record I didn’t get Kid Keller to admit to anything.”
Chase nodded. “Sure you didn’t,” he murmured, grabbing Chris by his shirt front and dragging him forward until their lips met. He felt Chris flail around for a moment until the other man seemed to realize Chase wasn’t just messing with him and relaxed, gently cupping Chase’s face in his hands, deepening the kiss further.
A few minutes later they broke for air, Chase’s forehead landing against Chris’s shoulder for a moment as he willed his head to stop spinning and his heart to stop racing. He grew unnaturally still in the other man’s arms when he realized Chris wasn’t talking and had barely moved.
Reluctantly, he pulled back from the other man’s hold, his eyes roaming warily over Chris’s face, hoping to find an explanation there.
“Chris? Are you…? You okay?” he asked hesitantly.
Chris drew in a deep breath, shaking his head, seeming to come back to himself.
“Relax, Chase. Chris Keller’s just realizing he may get laid tonight after all,” he said, a smirk curling his mouth upward as he put an arm around Chase’s shoulders, leading him out of the recording studio, intent on heading toward Chase’s apartment, which was above Red Bedroom Records and the bar Tric where Chase worked as the bar manager.
Chase snorted in disbelief, his eyes dancing in amusement. “Really? That’s all you have to say?”
Chris shrugged. “Pretty much, yeah,” he admitted as they entered the apartment. “Oh, and one more thing. You want to be Pony or should I?” he asked, his grin turning wicked as he removed his shirt, making his way toward the bed in the middle of the room.
Chase chuckled at the memory of the strippers the two of them had brought back to the apartment just a few days earlier and how he’d woken up next to Chris. It was funny how a few days perspective could change a person’s mind on things.
This time around he couldn’t wait to wake up with the other man. Or sleep with him in the first place. And with that thought in mind he pulled his own shirt over his head and made his way over toward his best friend, eager to begin this new phase in their relationship with Chris.
