I'm a volunteer at the local Observatory, helping out with their star viewing nights, and we have a more or less monthly meeting to do training and that sort of thing. Last night's also coincided with an occultation of Jupiter by our moon. So we kept the talk bit initially short and headed up to the telescopes where we had a look at first one of the moons of Jupiter (Ganymede) and then the planet itself, followed by Io and Callisto and finally Europa disappearing behind the dark half of our Moon.
Was lovely to see, though poor Greg who works at the observatory didn't get to see much of it, because he had to deal with the phone ringing nearly off the hook when the general public started noticing this bright spot near the moon and thinking that there might be aliens landing on the Moon!!
While not ideal for the purpose I managed to take a
few pictures with my iPhone through the eyepiece of two different telescopes, some before the planet disappeared behind the moon, and some after its reappearance. It looked much better through the eyepiece though.
