First full day in Cooma. And similar to Darwin I'm disinclined to the paying significant amounts for large breakfasts that I really don't need or want. It isn't that the prices here are any more than anywhere else I've been, they're about average, but I've hit the limit of having to decide and pay for that sort of thing. So similar to what I did in Darwin I'm foraging for myself a bit more.
I woke up this morning reasonably early. I don't seem to be able to sleep late, though this is different I know to getting up. I in fact looked at the weather app on my phone and was still not totally conscious, because for a while I was trying to work out why the weather app was giving me a single notification and what that notification could be. Then I remembered. The weather app doesn't have notifications in that spot. That was the temperature. 1ºC outside at that time in the morning. Luckily my room at the inn has I believe double brick walls and seems to be quite good at retaining the day's warmth. So it wasn't that bad when I got in last night, or tonight, and while I did have the little heater on for a while, I turned it off overnight, only turning it on for a bit in the morning to take the edge off the chill. I shall probably do something similar tonight.
I got some laundry done today, which is good because I was nearly out of trousers, of a length suitable to the Cooma chill. And for the first time in a good long while, dried in the sunlight. It actually was a lovely day, sunny, bright, and according to my UV reactive darkening glasses quite high on the UV scale.
But breakfast. Well, once I did get up and showered etc, I breakfasted by using the last of the packets I'd purchased in Darwin and some of the milk that the accomodation had provided. I then walked down to the centre of town and found the local coles, though I suppose I could have turned a different direction and found the woolworths, but it wasn't that much of a difference so I went for the slightly closer to the main street one. There I got another variety pack, a couple of loafs of bread, some hazelnut spread, and some milk. Because this place I am staying not only has a kettle for the use of guests, but also a toaster! Apparently some rooms might even have a microwave but I'm not that fussed about that.
This should do me for breakfast for the remaining week that I am here. Once I had got my purchases back to where I am staying and put in the fridge where necessary I consulted my maps app (There is no way I am trying to upgrade to iOS6 while in transit) and headed out to the house of
dalekboy,
shazgirl and family. I'd managed to see one of the kids the previous evening and I'd gotten them a little gift each from Floriade, but the other was abed, and, having displayed appropriate behaviour today was allowed to have his gift. They're only little things but, sometimes those are just nice to have. I still have not located my glove which I must indeed have left in Canberra. I guess I will be crocheting a new one. Might even be slightly better fitting since I have fairly slim hands and the initial version I made were a little on the big side on that front.
So, had fun playing with the kids for a bit, I got my laundry done and out, had some lunch, and eventually some dinner, watched some things, and got to chat a fair bit during the day, and some to
shazgirl who alas still has to work and had some errands that meant that she was a bit later getting home than usual. Still, the weekend approaches and for some unknown reason this year there are two public holidays in a row in at least the ACT, possibly in NSW, but since it is the ACT in which she works, that is the critical thing.
I'm finding it a nice winding down time, and I have been lent things to watch should I be so inclined in the latter part of the evenings since
dalekboy and
shazgirl have had to push things a bit recently and need the extra rest. I don't think I shall be doing that tonight, though I did watch some actual TV, because I am currently feeling very sleepy and look forward to another night's rest.
I also got a game of Dominion in.
