I'll never look at Abraham Lincoln the same way...

Totally. Freakin'. Awesome.

Random thoughts from the week:
  • For anyone who didn't hear - my students protested the failed school budget Wednesday morning.  I'm still glowing with pride.
  • On Thursday, my work BFF and I participated in a rally outside a senator's office.  Support our public schools, bitch.  (We were far more diplomatic than that...but that's the gist of our message.)  The following morning, all the teachers from my school who attended the rally ended up on the front page of all the local papers...except me.  I was cut out of the picture.  As in, my work BFF was right on the very edge of the photo, and I was standing on the other side of him.  LOL
  • Also on Thursday, a large group of students attended the town council meeting to make sure their voices were heard before the council cut the budget further.  Interestingly enough, the time of the meeting was pushed an hour earlier at the last minute...then the students were told that budget discussions would take place at a later date.  Are these people REALLY that scared of the students?  If so...good.  (P.S.  I'm told the students were well behaved and mature at the meeting...so ha ha to those assholes who thought they would riot.)
  • I felt compelled  to watch "Glee" for the first time this week, as I'm a HUGE Madonna fan.  And...I was thoroughly unimpressed with the show in general.  On one hand, I loved the collection of Madonna costumes in the hall (I could name every video they appeared in...even the more obscure ones).  On the other hand...WTF, man?  First off, I don't think bustiers and multiple pelvic thrusts should be part of a high school production.  Secondly, everyone sounded like one of the Chipmunks/Chipettes.  Frankly, I would rather have watched the Chipmunks/Chipettes.  How is this show so popular?  I don't get it.  So...you all can keep "Glee"...I'll stick to shows with plots.  And decent characters.  And talent.  Thank God for FX - "Damages" and "Justified" keep me going...
  • I'm having a lot of fun writing an AU fic for Syfy's "Alice" mini-series...it takes place in 18th century England, and is very Pride and Prejudice-esque.  Trying to write a chapter a week is a little stressful, but I'm pleased with the results, and I have a small (but loyal) group of readers.  You can read it HERE.
For anyone who isn't already aware, I'm a horror fangirl through and through...I love to be scared.  Not necessarily grossed out (though gore doesn't bother me - biology teacher, hello), but scared.  And Freddy Krueger popped my proverbial R-movie cherry when I was 8 years old.  That sounds a little messed up, doesn't it?  Anyway, I was sleeping over a friend's house, and we watched "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors."  I was absolutely terrified...this is a guy you cannot escape.  You can run...you can hide...you can lock yourself up in a friggin' fortress...but you need to sleep.  At some point, you have to.  You have no choice.  And that's when he gets ya...

So I have a certain fondness for my razor-gloved friend.  And as much as I adore Robert Englund...can I tell you how excited I am that Jackie Earle Haley is slipping his hand into that infamous glove?  Seriously...Rorschach + Freddy Krueger = ULTIMATE FANGIRL *SQUEE*

And I wonder why I don't have a boyfriend...LOL
