Frankfurt
ooh everything that could have gone wrong, virtually did. Yet we still (well i did) had a wicked time.It was hilarious.
Anna, Jenny, Erica and I went to pick up Anna's friend up from the airport in Frankfurt. The idea was we'd go do touristy stuff, pick her up and then go to a special restaurant that makes 'original austrian food' before going home.
That was before we found out that dear ol' Alli was landing at Frankfurt Hahn... aaagggges out of Frankfurt :-S
Well it all started when we found out the train we'd planned to take was an ICE (=Highspeed) and you can't use use our cheap tickets on them. So a trip to tourist info and the woman gave us a complete plan of the trains we could take. Well good!
On the 1st train half way to Mannheim the tannoy came over saying 'half of the train is staying here and the rest going on to Mannheim. Please change carriges.' Well we were sat at the front. But the train changed which way it was going! so we had to go the other end and by that time there was no seats. doh!
we finally got on our 2nd train and about 1/2 hour in a the ticket man came back and said 'you english?'
which is never a good sign because it means you've done something stoopidly wrong that only foreign people do.
Basically we had bought a 'Baden Wurtemburg Ticket' which means 5 people can go anywhere in Baden Wurtemburg. what we didnt know was Franfurt is in Hessen doh! ha ha.
Dude we thought we were never going to get there.... and poor Anna still had to find this other airport...
l we finally got out of the trainstation and voila! its right in the middle of a huge red light district! Anna was soooo worried about leaving us and i didnt make her feel much better when i joked 'oh don't worry - we're going to have a great time here !'
And then it took us forever to find the actual city part of Frankfurt! and we never did find the river... we spent 2 hours just trying to find somewhere to eat and it was sooo pretty but the service was terrible! randomness though because its the cute cottage but its in the middle of a huge square... oddness
seriously we sat and ordered hot chocolate and i asked the waitress if we could order food - she said yes and then walked off! we waited for ages before another came and we asked her and she took our order!
It was soo funny to us as we sat there for 45 mins just waiting to order food- we were sat in one of the little archways with these huge red blankets and the church at the side would not shut up! the bells rang for over 15 minutes and then started again 5 minutes later!
We wandered round quite a bit just looking at the little market spread around the centre and then went to explore 'Kaufhof' on the basis that it looked warm. For some reason Frankfurt looks a lot like New York to me - theres so many tall buildings and none of the architecture that i love about the other german cities. But It was worth going and i did enjoy all of it!
Then we went to meet Anna and met Alli and then we found out Anna had met Alli on the plane over here and they'd just decided to meet up again! and we'd let her go alone!
but Alli was sooo cool! She makes me laugh so much. She studying in Bilbao and didnt speak any german...
We got back around midnight and we were all completely knackered. I don't think i'd go to Frankfurt again but it was a laugh and i did enjoy it.
And then we had to top it all next day (yesterday) we had to be up at 8 to go to Freiburg with the International Club but i'll save that for when all of you friends pages have recovered
