I love the backstory you've created for Derek. Hearing his mother talk about his father's death, and Derek's reaction to it, was brilliant. I found it really interesting that he was fine, but not, for so long. Seeing him now as an adult, you don't think much about what he must have gone through before he got to Seattle, though we know he has the dead dad and the best friend and the ex-wife that must have created a whole slew of issues that were never properly addressed...until now, in your fic. Thank you. Amazing, as usual.

Thanks so much :) I agree that Derek has the potential to be just as Dark and Twisty as Meredith when you really start to look at him closely. I hope the show goes into this. They've started to in eensy amounts, which makes me happy. The man needs some canonical backstory, though, I tell you, it's darned fun trying to connect the dots myself!

Wow . . . .this is awesome! Ellen really needed someone to talk to, and maybe she's right, maybe she can't talk to Derek about this - even though I think maybe she should, but that's just me - and Meredith just kind of babbled it right out of her, didn't she? I love watching Mere babble, especially when she knows she's doing it. This was an absolutely lovely part; off to the next one!

Thank you so much :) Ellen might talk to Derek eventually, but I don't have plans to deal with it in LST right now. Meredith Babble is my favorite. It's very similar to how I am, so it comes easy for me.

It's so odd to think of Derek simply as a shell! I can go so far as to think of him as depressed and moody, but a ghost? God, his poor mother having had to witness that.

Oh, poor Meredith! She just...rambled throughout that entire conversation.

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't mean to imply Derek was walking around completely catatonic for thirty years or anything, just... not right. I don't really know how to describe it. Fine, but not completely involved with his own life, sort of detached, but not really? Hmmm.
