Bits I love the most: personal black hole (I have one in my house), that you know how old Mer is supposed to be (but I think you mentioned that already this fic), that M lusts after D in a suit, the Derek/Mark ghosts roaming Mt. Sinai, that she's able to comfort him so solidly re: his fears about being absent, that she touches the ring box (and that her touching it makes him smile), and every single word you wrote.

The rest sucked.

Thank you so much :) The Mount Sinai part was my favorite bit to write. And I love that I was able to work an issue into my Beta Reader's request to include Spider-Man and the bridge as a tour thing :) Anyway, I've really enjoyed trying to show how Derek has changed.

Ooh, I was so excited when I saw it was a long update. The whole exchange between Meredith and Derek about his worries over becoming absent again was beautiful. I love how simply and easily she reassured him, and that he seems to be so much more self aware now. The fact that he wasn't happy in NY but hadn't let himself see it while he was there was a nice touch too. And this line: "Don't ever let me not come home." That was just beautiful. It made me want to hug Derek.

Off to part two! Yay! :)

That was my favorite line in the whole part. I really just... had unexpected fun with this part, particularly the Mark flashbacks. My initial goal with the whole NYC trip was to show how displaced Derek was, but when I started, I was just overwhelmed, because I was sitting there thinking, how the hell do I do that? But, over the course of the tour thing, it shaped up, and I got exactly what I wanted, and I'm really happy with it!

Thanks so much :) The age conversation will get finished off later. Their ages are not canon, not really. It's been implied on the show that Meredith took a break before going to medical school, so I went with this and just guesstimated. As far as Derek's age, PD was 38 when he started filming Grey's, and he's 41 now, so I just chose a happy middle ground.

I've really enjoyed fleshing Derek out. They really need to do that on the show. I think, in addition to your points about him making mistakes through action, the other major problem is that he's served primarily as a Meredith prop, and so all of his actions revolve around her, and not 'his' motivations, if that makes sense.
