The Dempsey Challenge 2011

Jul 30, 2011 18:42

Well, it's that time of year again, and I've signed up to participate in the Dempsey Challenge once more with a bunch of my friends from across the United States.

First, what is the Dempsey Challenge, anyway? The Dempsey Challenge is a 5/10k run/walk and 25/50/100 mile cycle that helps raise funds for the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, which provides a whole list of free services to individuals suffering from the effects of cancer at the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center, including financial counseling, yoga classes, and other things.

I will be participating not only in the 10k walk this year, but also the 50 mile cycle.  This is something I have been training for roughly since getting home from the Dempsey Challenge last year.  Watching the cyclists cross the finish line in 2010 inspired me, and so I bought a spiffy new bike, and I've been working on it ever since.  In May of 2011, I did a 37 mile cycle at the San Diego Century, so I know I'm closing in on my goal, and I'm super excited!

You can read more about my experience last year here:  http://ariaadagio.livejournal.com/134336.html

How can you help? I'm trying to raise sponsorship money for my participation. I need to raise a minimum of $150, but I'm shooting for $1000, if I can make it.  Your donation is tax deductible. If you have any questions at all, you can find more information about the Center and the Challenge here: http://www.dempseychallenge.org/about-the-dempsey-center

For anyone who can afford it, even just $1, I would really appreciate your support! You can make donations via credit cards through my personalized donation portal: http://dempseychallenge2011.kintera.org/ariaadagio. It's a very simple interface, and will take maybe five minutes of your time. Keep your email receipt if you do this, because I may do another fic raffle this year, but only if I get enough donation participation.  Both Captain Crash & The Beauty Queen From Mars, and Stays in Vegas are the end results of last year's fic raffle.

Thank you so much :)
