HP7: The Goblet of Fire
I loved the spectacle of this book. They did a good job of helping you realize the greater wizarding world beyond Britain, and the kind of culture that exists there. There is so much more to the book, and the movie had a really hard time condensing so much story. There was a lot that got lost. Still, for what it is they did a decent job.
- Look, I know they wanted to introduce you to the character of Barty Crouch JR early, but I hate that they put him in that opening scene.
- "Hey Dad, where are we going?" "Haven't the foggiest. Keep up!" Bless.
- OH HAI EDWARD. Man I hate that's all we know you as.
- Why is everyone's hair so long. Why is this allowed. The twins pull it off, but Ron and Harry....No.
- "I love magic." Me too.
- The stadium is amazing. I wish we'd actually seen some of the game, and some of the interaction at the campsites.
- The Death Eaters. I was so unprepared for how creepy they'd be. Those masks are incredible, what a fantastic touch.
- I thought Cho was well cast. She is really pretty. She actually looks older in this one than she does in OOTP. I think it's her haircut. I hate those bangs she has in the next film.
- Haha, Filch running with a cramp. That was a fantastic acting decision.
- I was *slightly* offended by the way they made all the Beauxbatons students girls and the Durmstrang students boys. I know why they did, but it seemed...unnecessary. Also: Dumbly-dore.
- Ah, Mad-Eye Moody. What fantastic makeup/costuming.
- So, were there actually two Patil twins, or did they just have the same girl do the actions twice before? I mean, now we have one of the same girls, and someone else totally different. I guess they knew they couldn't have the same person do the ball scene and stuff. Also why are they both in Gryffindor. :P
- When you know who Moody really is, making Neville stand and watch him torture that spider with Crucio is so very very cruel.
- I was so glad they left in the Weasley's getting beards from the age line. Although Watson's acting is really terrible in that sequence.
- I always thought the attraction between Hermione and Krum was kind of creepy. He's like, eighteen and she's fourteen. It's no less creepy here.
- AngryDumbledore made me kind of mad when he like, attacks Harry after his name comes out of the Goblet.
- This is probably some of Grint's best acting. He's better in this than Radcliffe or Watson by a long road, his anger is really believeable.
- OH GOD Miranda Richardson as Rita Skeeter. Utterly fantastic. The costume...everything. I wish they'd been able to do more with her character, because really, Richardson is perfect.
- I love the design of the Daily Prophet. It's still great here, but reaches it's stride in the next film.
- Haha the Support Cedric Diggory badges were great.
- "Technically, it's a ferret." hahaha.
- I love how the personality of the DADA classroom/office changes with whoever the teacher is.
- As long as this movie is, and as much as got cut out of it, I was always super annoyed that they stretched the dragon sequence out. There really was no need or reason for it.
- I also dislike this scene in the common room.
- Hahaha, Hermione reading the article. Her rage is awesome. Also, again, Who is Nigel and WHY is he not Dennis Creevey.
- Okay, so I know this sequence is totally invented, but I can't help but love it. McGonagall teaching the Gryffindors to dance. So great. Neville dancing with himself in the dormitory. Aww.
- I absolutely love Padma and Parvati's dresses. Hermione's is great too. Ginny's is adorably sweet as well. Wizard Prom :) I love the weird sisters and their song. It's kind of ridiculous, but awesomely so.
- Again, Moaning Myrtle is CREEPY when she flirts with Harry. I'm sure they could have found an age-appropriate actress to do this.
- I kind of like the mermaid's look.
- I love this little scene, the trio and Hagrid singing the Hogwarts school song. It seems appropriate.
- The pensieve scene is interesting, but I like the look of the courtrooms much better in Order of the Phoenix.
- And we're already here to the Maze. It just feels like we hardly got any down time - I know they had to cut out so much, but you know, they did actually have to go to school this year too.
- In some ways, I like what they did with the maze. But I also really liked the sphinx, and the upside down rooms, and all that. Still, the interaction between Harry and Cedric in the maze was well done.
- Welcome everyone, to the Ray-Fiennes-is-probably-the-best-actor-in-the-series-so-far Show.
- The Priori Incantatum sequence always seemed like it would be difficult to film, but this was well done. The effects of it were great.
- I like the speech Dumbledore gives at the end, about Cedric. And I like the conversation he has with Harry in the dormitory afterwards. It feels more like the Dumbledore I know and love from the book. It's the first steps towards the *right* Dumbledore.
- GOF is the first time I can remember being really taken in by the soundtrack. It was much better, much more enchanting and encompassing than William's early soundtracks.
Goblet is great, as an action adventure film goes. In terms of the books, it's sadly lacking in both character development and overall plot, except for Ron and maybe Harry. Still, it was enjoyable, and laid the groundwork for what is easily my favorite movie, Order of the Phoenix, which starts NOW! :)
