So, I have been meaning to post an update for days, but I'm just now getting to it. However I now have several awesome reasons to update, so here goes.
I was offered full-time at my job yesterday!!!!!!! Things have been going really well, when I'm not closing at BB I have been staying until 6pm, so that Michael isn't the only person still there after 5 (we're open til 6). I think they've realized how much difference it makes having me there all afternoon, so as soon as Kent finds a replacement for me as a manager at Blockbuster, I am going to step down and go full-time at AlphaGraphics. I am so excited! I'll still work at Blockbuster on weekends and probably Mondays, but as a CSR again.
On the apartment front, we've confirmed that we have an apartment. We move in on June 28th. Sarah and I have started picking out stuff like paint and sofa covers for our furniture. We're painting one of our living room walls black. How awesome is that? I'll post pictures in July-ish when we get everything moved in.
Also been making slow progress on the writing frontier, gotten lots of notes done and worked out a couple problem sequences in ouline form, and this weekend I intend to get as much actually typed out as I can.
Tonight I am going to see Prince Caspian!!! So excited. I know what they have changed from the book, and I am curious to see how they handle it. Mostly Susan. And good lord, when did those Pevensie boys get so good looking? I mean, Caspian would have been enough for me, but Edmund? Yeah. AND we're getting another movie out of them both (yay!!!) I still am really really nervous how they're going to adapt Voyage of the Dawn Treader because, as I have said before, it doesn't translate well into typical movie plot lines - there is no overall conflict or struggle (unless you count the search for the seven lords, or the desire to reach the utter east, but that doesn't seem...enough). There's no specific enemy throughout, it's a series of several small stories, not one overall story, and I just don't want them to change so much that they lose that spirit. (If they EVEN cut out the Dufflepuds, I will boycott. Seriously) In fact, of ALL the books, Voyage is probably the least adaptable, The Horse and His Boy or The Silver Chair would both be excellent choices, even Last Battle, which would still face challenges because there is SO much religious symbolism. I would say Magician's Nephew also, but that story doesn't quite have the...grandeur of the rest. I understand why they went with Voyage, it finishes out the story of the Pevensie children and makes a neat little trilogy, but there are a lot of challenges in the adaptation. Is all I'm saying.
(Eventually I will stop soapboxing about that. When I see the trailer...) Oh, and on a related note, I picked up the soundtrack to Prince Caspian as well. It's good, although having not seen the movie yet I can't really put the music in context at the moment. It isn't as good as the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe soundtrack, it's much darker, probably because this movie is much more battle-focused. But so far I'm really liking what I am guessing is probably Caspian's theme, it sounds a lot like the main theme from LWW, but a little more layered, a lot more percussion and fast-moving string line with it. Should be good background music for all those battle scenes I intend to write. Someday.
And now, I should totally finish (start) cleaning. Because I've only been meaning to for two (and a half) weeks.
