Ooops, slackin'!

I just realized I hadn't done my update for the week, so here we go!
Ummm... so week 10. What's happened? Last week I had a lot to do, studying, drawing, writing papers, etc. and then had my two history midterms on Thanksgiving. Never gonna forget that one. The Thanksgiving dinner was nice though--Pam (the cooking teacher from Orientation) made us turkey, mashed potatoes, veggies, and even found us sweet potatoes! One of the other girls made mincedmeat and I made a chocolate pudding pie. I couldn't find graham crackers so I used cookies for the crust, which made it WAY rich, but SOOO good. We ate our fill and had a good time, and then I got to talk to all my family members on the phone as I was walking home, so I was very content.

Friday I had to get up early for my drawing class, and we went to the National Museum at the Bargello, which used to be a jail once upon a time, but now houses things like Donatello's Davids, Michelangelo's Bacchus, and the contest pieces for the baptistry doors by Ghiberti and Brunelleschi. We spent a couple of hours drawing from reliefs and then I wandered the museum and left. I went to the Uffizi that afternoon and got all giddy because of all of the really famous artwork they have. They put the paintings behind a glass plate, so you can get within about 3 inches of the canvas and they don't care, so I got to see Michelangelo's, Leonardo's, Botticelli's, Ghirlandaio's, Filippo and Filippino Lippi's, and several other people's BRUSHSTROKES. Talk about cool.

Saturday we had to get up at the crack of dawn to go to Mantova on a Smith trip. It rained and was cold all day, so by the end of it my pants were wet up to the knees and we were all miserable, but Mantova's a neat city. It's surrounded by man-made lakes, so is contained and thus not very big, and it has some really neat history attached to it. We spent several hours with guides learning about it. *facepalm* I think it would have been more interesting had I had enough sleep that week and if it hadn't been raining.

Sunday was work day, as I had several papers (short, but several) and a midterm this week. I've really just been doing work this week. One of the girls's host family got a puppy so I went over to her house last night to watch a movie with her while she puppy-sat, and yesterday my Art History class got tessere (kind of like a membership) for a week at the huge Art History Library here to do research for our final papers, so I went there this morning and then took my bike home (I finally got the tire fixed, which is good, since there was a bus strike today). I went up to the Villa where I'm doing my volunteer work this evening and played with the kids and then helped in the kitchen to get ready for dinner. It's interesting for me, since I've never really worked with boys and they're refugee kids too, not to mention I'm having to think fast in Italian to get them to follow the rules, so it's good.
Alright, dinner's ready, so I'm going to eat and then watch a movie and pass out. This weekend's going to be pretty full, but I'll tell y'all about it later!
