Okay, I thought I'd post since I haven't in a while and then I'm actually going to go to bed because I haven't done that in a while either.
So, went to New York with the twins, which was the break I sorely needed from life as it was. Thankfully I no longer have days AND nights during which I am required to work, so coming home wasn't completely dreadful. We had an absolute BLAST. We walked, as Mercedes put it, "about 50 miles" around Manhattan, did all the touristy things like went and saw the Statue of Liberty, wandered Times Square, went to the WTC site (although there's really nothing to see except a couple of holes in the ground on either side of the PATH transit station), wandered Central Park (which was lovely--there was a moment when I forgot I was in the middle of a huge city), shopped in Chinatown, ate pizza, bought hot dogs from the street vendors, and so on. We went into the biggest Toys R Us I've ever seen in my life (there was a ferris wheel inside) and also in Times Square there was an M&Ms store that was 2 storeys of nothing but M&M crap, like t-shirts and stuff. It was odd.
I won a $20 front row seat to go and see Rent on Broadway, WHICH WAS AWESOME AND I CRIED LIKE WOAH. I mean, I could have stood up and touched the actors during parts of it, that's how close I was. If I had been a few seats to the left I'd have been spit on by them when they sang passionately. It was surreal.
The twins got to have a little pampering morning for only $60 where they got haircuts, mud facials, manicures, and eyebrow waxes. They weren't thrilled with how it all turned out, but I think they just need to see how amazing it was that they got a deal like that.
We went and saw a Yankees game (Yankees v. Detroit, and the effers LOST. To the TIGERS. Gar. It's because they lost their morale when Detroit hit a grand slam in the first inning, and then Derek Jeter couldn't get his head out of his butt long enough to play short stop), which we all really had fun doing, especially Antoinette, whose favorite team is the Yankees. She was all decked out, to the amusement of her sister and me.
I went while they were getting their facials to the Met (art museum) and got to see several things I had studied in Art History this past year, which was really exciting (especially the Vermeers and ter Borchs in the European Paintings section).
On Friday when the twins were attempting (and sadly failing) to go to a club, Alex and I decided to go see Stardust. It's actually a pretty good rendition of the book, although Alex and I cringed at the music and obvious LOTR knockoffs they kept using. Overall, it was definitely worth seeing. Plus, we saw it in the biggest movie theater I've ever been in--I mean, I think this thing was in Times Square, and it had at least 2 storeys, if not 3 or 4. It was huge. I also got to go to the Museum of Natural History with one of my swim teammates on Saturday before I left. We went to the Mythical Creatures show, and then went and saw the dinosaurs and the huge whale before I had to leave to catch our train back to AR. I didn't get to see any of the other Bananas or Robin, but I had a good time. I was about an inch from not getting on the train to come back though. I kept thinking, "oh, I could change my ticket so that I could stay just a few days longer." I absolutely loved it there, and the fact that I won't get to see Alex again for a long time made it a very hard decision to get on the train. Ultimately it came down to "no one can come and get your butt from the train station in Little Rock if you miss the ride the twins have worked out, so you'd better get going." If I'd had a day or two to plan it, I probably could have come up with something, but oh well.
Now I'm back and just worked my first night back at the Gas-N-Roll, and I actually had meant to be in bed about an hour and a half ago, but obviously haven't made it yet. *sigh* Heh, and I had to return the wonderful little Samurai jeep to my aunt and uncle before I left for NYC and now I keep trying to hit the clutch in my mom's Lumina. Man, I liked having my own car. When I get back, the first question will be, "can I afford a car payment?" In upbeat news, my financial aid package has happily made it possible for me to go abroad and not be stranded somewhere cold and dangerous during my breaks, which will be nice, and I may actually get to do some things while I'm there. *whew* Now I just have to keep working at a nice brisk pace so that I can be sure to have enough. Okay, seriously going to bed now. I have to work again tonight and take my grandmother to the doctor tomorrow, so I should get a full day's sleep for alertness purposes. Hopefully I'll be better about posting now that I'm not a walking zombie. Until next time!
