April's topic: What's the best thing that has ever happened to me? And the worst?

Generally, good things don't happen to me, so I have very few memories to choose from. Overall, I would have to say that the best thing ever was my sixteenth birthday. I'd been taking a class at the YMCA, an archery class and I was actually good, the only thing I've ever been good at. Then we moved away and I couldn't do it anymore because I didn't have a bow or anywhere to practice. So, for my birthday, my mom surprised me with a really nice bow, a set of arrows, a case and a target. I still have the bow today, and even though I don't practice anymore, I hope to take it up again.
That moment is special because it's the only time my mom ever paid attention and supported something I was interested in. Another moment that actually ties for the best is when I got a good grade for a short story I'd written in a college course, but that's a different story.
The worst thing that has ever happened to me would have to be the car accident I was in a few years ago. The entire experience, which I will not elaborate on, was horrible and traumatizing for me. In retrospect, it probably could have been handled a lot better than it was and not have been so bad, but everything is easier in hindsight. That car accident really had a domino effect in my life, pushing me in an entirely different direction from the path I was on and hugely altering the person I've become. It took a long time for me to be able to get back in a car, never mind behind the wheel and I hate driving now. I can't even watch a car crash on television without my heart racing and getting sick to my stomach. I hate that Allstate guy too, because of those awful commercials.
Both of those moments have done a lot to shape who I am as a person. A lot of my weird quirks are a direct result of those events and others like them. I try not to focus on them a lot, especially the worst ones, because I can't walk forward if I'm always looking behind me, can I?

best day, worst day, archery, sixteenth birthday, april
