Fiction -- As Sharp as Any Thorn

This was originally posted at dmhgficexchange's Celebrate the Season with Draco and Hermione.

Here it is in a slightly revised version. Unless you memorized the old draft -- which of course you should have -- you probably won't notice much difference. A few moments have been expanded, some lines that made me cringe have been rewritten and so on. So no need to ( Read more... )

Hmm--I was looking on FFN and the restriction seems old news. They had removed adult fics at one time due to worries about legal presures, but they seem to have added a rating above even the "M" now

Fiction Rated: M
Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language.

Fiction Rated: MA
Content is only suitable for mature adults. May contain explicit language and adult themes.

So I guess "M" is R, and "MA" is NC-17

The thing with FFN is that they "hide" fics over PG-13 equivalent so it doesn't appear under "Just In" or ordinary searches. People do find them though--and the reveiws for HP can go thru the roof--incuding for HG/DM. For instance a HG/DM on FFN "God of the Lost"--has 2,380 reviews (it's rated "M" btw). If you click in contrast "top fictions" on Pureblood, the Sychophant Hex site, the most popular fic I can find has at most 183 reviews, the DM/HG story on OWL's most popular story in the Draco section has 48 (OWL is young though--about a year old, and has just really started building up it's Draco section)

So yeah, the short of it is I'd give FFN a try.

Yeah, I thought they had a restriction at FFN, too. I remember people were upset about it at one point. Cool that it's gone. I really do appreciate you giving me advice on where to post. That's very nice of you, and apparently you should be able to read this story at OWL soon. :D

You're welcome--I'm relatively new to the fandom myself--and as you said, we don't really get a primer handed out. It's part of what LJ is good for I think--to point us to the good archives, and warn us off the horrors...

And I just read your story on OWL btw, loved it, and left a review there. I'm going to have to add you to that select group of authors: Bambu, Snarkywench, and Pir8fancier who can have me reading DM/HG and loving it.
