Japanese man dies of overwork (
http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/Asia/STIStory_258932.html).
I quote the article " The case is the latest of hundreds of deaths a year officially determined to have been caused by the hardships of working for Japanese companies, where overtime is a matter of course and holidays few and far between...Maezawa (the guy who died), who had been working at Skylark (the company he worked for) since 1991, usually left home around 7:00 a.m. and came back around 2:00 a.m., taking only two or three days off each month."
Having worked in Tokyo for several months (fortunately not with a Japanese company), I can so relate to incidents such as this. My Japanese colleague told me that it is a mark of honor to get hospitalized because of overwork. He boasted that he has fallen sick twice over the past six months because of overwork. Someone give him a medal please.
Luckily, I have served NS and knows how to deflect arrows ;)
