So last night I got to spend sleeping at the National Naval Medical Center's Sleep Clinic. It wasn't as bad as I had thought it could be but, it was by no means enjoyable.
I got there about 8pm and waited around for at least an hour before someone brought me some paperwork to fill out. Then, I got hooked up. Electrodes all over my head; as well as a couple on my torso and one on each leg. A little after 11pm, it was lights out and time for sleep. Sleep came...eventually. I don't sleep well easily on my back but that was really the only option considering the 10-15 wires I had connected to me.
A little after 5am this morning I was woken up but then told that they needed a little more info from the machines so I had to stay in bed/try to sleep some more for a little while. At about 5:30ish, the technician comes back and tells me that he needs to unhook his other patient first b/c she needs to get to work ASAP. By now I'm fully awake and have to pee like it's going out of style. Of course, I can't get up and go b/c I'm still hooked up to the machines. So, finally he comes back...unhooks me...and I go to the bathroom to change...only to discover that I now have a full head of petroleum jelly.
As for the results of the study; the technician said that he hadn't seen much over the course of the night to indicate sleep apnea but I wouldn't have the official results for 2-4 weeks. He also told me to keep my schedule "flexible" for the next month or so as they might request that I come back down for a repeat if they decide that I didn't sleep enough or if they discover something else is going on.
At least I got to watch Grey's Anatomy on my personal 7-inch tv...
