The tireless Bristol underground have managed to squat a new grand location, a big place called the Magic Box that apparently used to be a theatre of soughts, though was more recently a wetherspoons chain pub. Heroically, despite the designs of the riot police, last night it was transformed back from its recent corporate hell to the glory of the theatre - a cabaret was held there, organised by - the invisible circus! Like a step at once backwards and sideways in time, the show and the 'audience' combined the glamour of the 20s/50s with the weird & freakshow quality of the counterculture... it was complete with a painted mime ringmaster, floorshows, old-style diva singers, rope-masters, a man eating glass, a guy who came on and took off all his clothes, a guy on a eukalele singing some lovely songs including 'i fucked my mum last night', 'jesus wants you for your cock cheese', a song about ketamine, and so on.
The atmosphere managed to grasp the ancient english tradition of theatre... the class with the anarchy. Plus lots of people doing ketamine.
